My brother called me earlier today and said he was by a gun shop in Richmond, VA and picked up some 165 and 180 gr Speer Deep Shocks. Normal priced bullets with a premium look to them. He said it showed a cutaway section that to him, would never separate....somewhat like a trophy bonded.....Anyone seen/heard anything about these?? He said the shop keeper said they were "new". The Deep Shok was first Federal's (for loaded ammo) and then Speer's (for a component bullet) "mystery bullet that never was". I think the only ones (for handloading) that ever made it to market were the 165 gr and 180 gr .308 caliber bullets. The Deep Shoks were discontinued.
I purchased some in the States @ 3 years ago - 2 boxes of 180 grainers.
Big disappointment; they didn't shoot worth a sh*t! Used all 200 trying to assemble loads that worked great with other already noted & known performers, Sierra, Nosler, CT, Hornady, etc. I'm one experience wiser and quite frankly the load testing failures didn't give me the confidence to try them on game either.
shrps 74, your brothers a smart guy!!!!! that shop keeper is all wet! the speer DS has sadly been discontinued for more then 3 years,i called speer and talked to one of their ballistic techs, he told me the bullet was very hard to make causing way 2 manny bad bullets verses good ones made per production run, and that the bullet never really caught on!!! pitty really cause speer always did make a fine bullet , and they still do even to day.....they were made in 3 calibers that i know of,270,284,and 30, i got lucky and got a few boxs of 30 cal 180 grainers, and yes their packed in 100 count boxs......they shoot fantastic, and their easily the equal of the Nosler Partition,tell your bro to shoot something worthy of them great bullets he was soooooooooooooo lucky to fine!!!!! regards jjmp

I bought some when they first came out and all 7, 30 caliber rifles I own were easy to make these bullets shoot great. When I saw they were being discontinued, I set out to buy all I could find. I just counted and I have 800 in 165gr. and 1250 of the 180s left. Some people just don't get it. Four deer and 2 elk later, yet to recover one, silver dollar exit wounds, and excellent accuracy. Sounds like $25.00/50 Partitions, yet these are under $20.00/100. I'll take all I can get and never look back.
