I just picked up a Remington 700 Classic in 35 Whelen..My plan was to put on a 2x7 Leupold compact on it and use it..Now the problem!
It is new and unfired in the box ..I am wondering if maybe I should leave it that way..I think they came out with the Whelen in the early 80,s and all of a sudden it hit me that maybe it would be a shame to shoot it...
How collectable are the classics?
What year did the Whelen come out?
What should I do?
I have a hankering to see how well it shoots...
I don't really need to shoot it because I already have a 338-06..
I'd be all over shooting it! I for the most part don't believe in the consept of making money on guns. I buy guns to use, if I want to make money I can personally find much better places. Plus I personally believe in using a gun every year.

A rifle that is chambered for the .35 Whelen should be used as a hunting rig. If a person is not inclined to reload, Federal Premiums, using 225 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets, will give you an honest 2600 ft/sec. CP.
I refuse to own a wall-hanger. All my guns are shooters, period. Take it out and shoot it, that's what it is made for. If you can't bring yourself to shoot it, I am right up the freeway from you. I would be glad to take it off your hands(lol)
Shoot it! By the time it becomes a collectible you & I won't be alive to know it anyway.
