700 classic 35 Whelen help...
Hey guys,

I just picked up a Remington 700 Classic in 35 Whelen..My plan was to put on a 2x7 Leupold compact on it and use it..Now the problem!

It is new and unfired in the box ..I am wondering if maybe I should leave it that way..I think they came out with the Whelen in the early 80,s and all of a sudden it hit me that maybe it would be a shame to shoot it...

How collectable are the classics?

What year did the Whelen come out?

What should I do?

I have a hankering to see how well it shoots...

I don't really need to shoot it because I already have a 338-06..

Please help...

shoot it it is not that collectable. If you use it to much you may come to prefer it . shoot at your own risk.

I'll take it off your hands if you don't want to shoot it.

Shoot it.
The 700/classic/ 35 Whelen makes a great rabbit gun and it would be a shame not to use it.

I'd be all over shooting it! I for the most part don't believe in the consept of making money on guns. I buy guns to use, if I want to make money I can personally find much better places.
Plus I personally believe in using a gun every year.

It's best value is in all the people who want the 700 classic in .35 whelen to hunt with and can't find one. It's not hardly an antique yet.

A rifle that is chambered for the .35 Whelen should be used as a hunting rig. If a person is not inclined to reload, Federal Premiums, using 225 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets, will give you an honest 2600 ft/sec. CP.

I refuse to own a wall-hanger. All my guns are shooters, period. Take it out and shoot it, that's what it is made for. If you can't bring yourself to shoot it, I am right up the freeway from you. I would be glad to take it off your hands(lol)

Shoot it! By the time it becomes a collectible you & I won't be alive to know it anyway. [Big Grin]
