This year, Cooper has given $3,300 to the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama. That's on top of the $1,000 check he wrote to Obama's U.S. Senate campaign in 2004, after he was dazzled by Obama's speech at that year's Democratic National Convention.

Obviously it don't take much to dazzle him.

I'll never understand why any businessman would ever support (publicly) any candidate.....he's going to piss off at least half the people.....it just doesn't make good business sense and inthis case makes even worse sense because of the business he's in and the facts on Obama.

I easily understand one not liking the liberal McCain......but to support Obama is pure stupidity.

Me too! Or that so-called "celebrity" endorsements matter either. Colin Powell or James Baker certainly. But Oprah Winfrey or George Clooney? You're having a laugh!

As for endorsements I prefer Athletes selling athletic supporters .

Doesn't your money say it all If I recall correctly , Trust in God .

Perhaps it should now be included in that phrase " not in our government " .

Just an opinion of an observer .

It's Dan Cooper's right to do so, as it was Tim Leatherman's right to support John Kerry in 2004.

Of course, it's our right to buy guns and hunting-related items from companies whose principals support candidates who support our Second Amendment rights.

Well George....may I restate your post?

It's Dan Cooper's right to cut his own throat any way he wishes!

Of course, it's our right to help him do so buy buying from competitors who support our Second Amendment rights.

Bingo, vapodog!

I felt the same way about Bill Ruger and his company when he backed magazine capacity restrictions (because the influx of 'wondernines' had hurt his revolver sales) and 'assault weapon' (because Colt, Bushmaster, FNC, SIG, Galil, Steyr, et al. were beating his POS Mini-14 in sales) legislation back in the 1980s.

And who can forget the ultra-effective boycott of Smith & Wesson after their leadership came out against sales to civilians?

He stated he would not try to take our hunting arms away. He also stated he believes in more regulation of firearms...which could come in the form of registration, permits, taxes, etc.

I am now officially boycotting Cooper, and will never even consider them as a choice, in fact I'm forgetting the fact they even exist. Anyone who supports a gun grabbing, socialist, radical such as Obama, who opposes the products Cooper makes, then they need to go the way of the Dodo.

I bet that Cooper Firearms will need to be sold and renamed. Unless Dan Cooper disassociates himself from the company, he just sank it along with all the people working for it.

I am from a family of retailers (clothing and footwear) for almost 100years. I was taught not to get into politics publicly. Might be chickensh#t to some but when you are dealing with the public why piss off 1/2 of your customers? I can't afford to piss off 1/2 of my customers!

When someone who is in the gun industry puts his money on an anti gun candidate I wonder why? Holy crap what are you thinking of? You "might" believe in Obama but that is a big step. You have put not only your company (which I used to regard highly) and your employees in a dire position.

Man, I used to think about the Cooper rifles I lusted after. Now I won't worry.

John

Perhaps they are hedging their bets.

If Dan was looking for press, he sure got it the last two days. EVERY hunting and shooting forum is running with his support for NObama. I'm sure he'll feel the heat.
But, as mentioned, he has every right to support whomever he chooses.
It's my right to buy rifles from Mel Forbes too.
In case anyone missed my point, I WILL NOT be buying a Cooper rifle in the future.
NObama is DANGEROUS beyond belief, far worse for us Americans than Osama Bin Laden.

Here's the information from the Federal Elections Commission website:

I see nothing for McCain and donations for Obama from Dan Cooper and Daniel Lyddell Cooper (CFI Montana). Also some donations for a local Democrat. Note the Donation to "O" in 2004 when he was running for the Senate.
