you dont specify use.... But if you could ONLY have 3 rifles...... 22 LR .270 35 Whelen these would cover everything in the lower 48 nicely Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

my three rifle battery consists of substantially more than three.....why must we assume only three? Guns simply aren't that expensive that one can't own a few more. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." 3 Rifles/Calibers is not an option. I like to play and each one has a purpose.

Interesting question! I finally realized I had too many rifles chambered in calibers and cartridges I either no longer shoot or don't enjoy. I'm actually trying to thin my arsenal down to these in the cartridges and platforms that I have found to be the most useful for my applications: 223 REM Wylde Wilson AR 15 270 WIN Model 70 FWT 338 WIN MAG Model 70 Supergrade I still plan to get rid of a few more rifles. Eventually I will thin the herd down to them. Tomorrow I may well change my mind again.

I am lucky enough to have many 3 rifle batteries, couple of my must haves are: 375H&H 30/06 22/250 I also have a 9.3x62, 338 Win Mag and a .257 Roberts that somehow could interchange easily in the above list, not to mention a 6.5x55 Swede that should never be left out........too many to choose.

The best solution is to have two separate gun safes and keep only your current 'in use' guns in the one and all the other in the other safe. That way, you can always keep your 'current use' guns up to date without having to buy another gun! The added advantage is that you never have to regret having sold a gun that you decide you want again. My choice would be; 22lr bolt action Remington 512 22 Hornet Anschutz 303-25 Lee Enfield on a No.4 action All of the above being modern, rimmed cartridges! And actions! If I was allowed a forth, it would be a 45-70 on a Lee Enfield MkI action. Regards 303Guy

6.5x55 .300 WinMag .416 Taylor I know the last time this question was asked it was different but for today that is my 3-gun battery. Tomorrow it'll likely be different again. Thank God I have a bunch of "3-gun batteries". Namibiahunter .

OK, if I absolutely, positivly had to narrow it down to 3, I could do it with just six - 3 rifle batteries. Which 3 you want?

I could probably do it all with just a .30-06 for everything in my neck of the woods. Pefect for large-bodied whitetails, moose, elk, and black bear out to about 300 yards which is realistically about as far as I go. Add a .22 for teaching my son how to shoot and a 12ga. for taking down some geese and clays and that about covers it. Don't really need anything else. Want is a different story, though. ________ "...And on the 8th day, God created beer so those crazy Canadians wouldn't take over the world..."

These would be my choices as the overall balance they represent to all types of rifle shooting. While some here may argue that a large "heavy" rifle should be added, the known and proven acceptability of the .375 H&H speaks for itself. The "medium" choice of .30-06 is another case where more piss and vinger could be added to the stew, but without meaningful change. I would love to have said a centerfire .22 calibler rifle, but the rimfire just does more of the small chores then any other rifle. So these work for me. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! A three rifle battery is tough...maybe 5 or 6 but three? Okay, 17HMR for ground squirrels 338 Lapua for NA big game 458 Lott for the big stuff and S&Gs. However I must state that my no delete battery includes: 17HMR 220 Swift 25-06 338 Lapua 458 Lott These five rounds are my favs and although I have many more they are my go to rifles. I'll add my AR in 223 for my non PC rifle and call it quits. Six rifles and I'm good to go. 3 calibers/rifles just limits me too much! Adjustable Wrench, Vice Grip Pliers, Ball Peen Hammer. But to use just these three you need ammo to support them.....duct tape and bailing wire. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Tough call. With North American calibres I would go with 223 rem, 280 rem & 340 Wby or if you want to consider metric calibres consider 6.5x55,8x68 and the 9.3x64.

I'm sure that a 375H&H will kill any prairie dog that needs it. It should then create a hole to bury it in at the same time. Them 270gr spire points shoot pretty flat out to 300yds and you shouldn't have any failure to exit issues, maybe not expand but they will exit.
