Very nice rifle!
Mine is a Mod 70 Win. and I am handloading 250gr Hornady SP. at about 2650fps. I wanted one gun to do it all and when I was standing in that grizzly track last fall and there was bear footprint all aroung my foot I wanted more horsepower than I had in my hands at that time. The recoil doesn't seem bad at all and so far my first groups are around an inch to an 1 1/4. I should be able to fine tune it a little more before I am done. I like the heavy bullets in this caliber. Happy hunting to all who have responded. Cool

Mustbhuntn,

I also have this Winchester pre 64 in .338 – I use 225 grain Accubonds and shoot one hole at 100 Yards. Try the Accubonds, you might be pleased.

Good luck and great hunting,
Roland

The 325WSM its my go to rifle. With 180gr TSX and 73gr of RL-19 its shoots 3130fps .5 moa at 100yds with mild recoil..

Randy,

Great rifle. I personally like the 325 over the 338, because of the ease of shooting, less recoil.
Good pix too. Neat knife..Grins What blade steel is in the knife?

It strikes me funny that well into two pages of discussion no comparison has been made between the 325WSM and the 8m/m Rem mag.

If I had to choose between the two I would pick the .338, but luckily I don't have to choose, so I have both.

I agree with Mike, I doubt that there is an ounce of difference between them.

I started out many years ago with the .338 Win Mag fully customize Mauser, and that is still my choice. I have shot everything from Rockchucks to Cape Buffalo with mine and its always performed 100%..It is one of my all time keeper rifles, and anyone that knows me will tell you that I am a true gun whore and will sell anyone of them at a profit. The fact its still around after 30 or 40 years ??? speaks highly of my .338 Win.

If I was a new buyer, I'd opt for the old dog.

I bought my son a Kimber when he got out of the Marines two years ago, it is a 325 WSM. I used to own a pair of 338's and liked them. My son has used his Kimber the last two deer seasons and with the 200 gr accubond it is a tremendous caliber. I have since ordered a 325 as well, however mine is a little different as it is in a handcannon. It is a handfull but is manageable with the brake on it, I now have all four of the WSM's in the HS handcannons and they are performers. the 325 will be used for elk this next season.

The 325 bullets have almost as good SD as the 338 and the BC is almost as good as well. The velocity on heavy bullets is almost as good as a 338. Everything about the 325 sounds really good and it almost measures up to the 338. So I got a 338. That was fun.

Yup! Almost having a .338 mag. isn't the same as having one. Having said that, load 'er up with some 225 gr. North Forks in front of about 73 grs. of Rldr-22 and go huntin'. 2800 fps easily. What's not to like?

Face guys...the 325 WSM is the new Best All Around North American cartrdige and African Plains Game Round.

The 338 Win has to much recoil...300 win doesn't have enough frontal area.

Oh ad don't tell me about the I can't get ammo thing...if you use that excuse no new cartridge would ever be adopted...

I can just see 40 or 50 years ago...better not get a 338 win mag you won't be able to get ammo for it. stir

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
