I have been on this site for a while and followed your posts, and I actually thought better of you than what I am seeing in this thread. My opinions are my opinion and pretty much meaningless, but your opinions can negatively effect YOUR business. For someone that adverises their "wares" on this site, it is just food for thought.

If my opinions on an internet forum, affect the way potential clients view my guide service, instead of looking at my success rates or contacting my references, then I probaly do not want them as clients.

I have never met or hunted with a quality outfitter than was not opinionated.

That is what makes them good, they have worked at the business long enough and have enough experience that they really don't have the time to listen to some upstart client that has more money than sense, try to tell them how to do their job.

The best clients come into camp ready to listen to the guide, because that is why they booked with him, for his knowledge and experience.

People that judge others by words on a computer screen are somewhat less of a human than they really know. JMO.

The "less of a human" statement doesn't make any sense to me, but I do find that many people say thing on internet message boards that they wouldn't or shouldn't say otherwise. In your case, thanks for your opinion and keep on digging.

Boy, they must be some sites. Usually you can get a good enough fight here.
Don't forget us less experenced shooters still wondering about these new cartridges.

Personally I think they're a waste of time and money, but if we have time and money to waste, on a sport or hobby, why not?

They are just another solution for which there was no problem

+1 here!

Now a factory 358 Winchester, 35 Whelen, 338-06 and Federal's 338 version of the 308 very much welcomed!

On the other hand you could say that with the 270 Winchester the 280 Remington wasn't "needed" either. I wish I could get one here in UK!

The "problem" however is that often as these new cartridges are launched perfectly good old classics disappear from the lists.

Mikey, try a Sako 75 or 85, they feed perfectly, and hold 4 down, 1 up, for those that need that many! I have several 270 WSM's and they are bug hole shooters, each one set up with a different bullet--sweet!

Ok, everyone that loves the 338/06 hold up their hands. Any of those same people hate the WSM cartridges? AR never ceases to amaze me with the inconsistency and adopting of the "cartridge of the month".
Hey Ray is the 416 Ruger you're offering better than the 416 Remington or Rigby?
Playing with new guns and new cartridges is the fun of this sport. If we approached it any other way, everyone would own a 30/30 and a model 12 shotgun.
When we resist trying something simply because it is new, we do ourselves a disservice.
My name is Lou and I have 3 short mags! There, I said it. What a weight of my chest!!! dancing

Popular because of marketing, not because it does something better than what was already out there.

while I am sure they are out there, I don't personally know any 'gun' guys with a safe full of hunting rifles that have forsaken their historic calibers for a short mag as there go to rifle.

I shot my .270 WSM yesterday and got a tiny group with a cheap 140 grain Nosler Combined Tech Failsafe uncoated bullet (I paid $4.97/box for ten boxs). The speed over a Oehler 35-P was 3004 fps. Last weekend I shot a 130 grain bullet (beleave it or not a North Fork, in other words not cheap or even available now) and it chronographed at 3455 fps and shot a one holer. My 150 grain Nosler Partition (cosmetic blems that I have 20 boxs available that I bought very cheap) have clocked 3150 to 3200 fps and given me many one hole groups. Now if you nay sayers think that is not an improvement over the old .270 Win, go right ahead and think it. I don't think any of the old .270 Win guys will be getting rid of their tryed and true rifles, why should they when they have their loads and have had success with them. Buyers today will certainly perk up their ears if they know enough to reload and test loads. I have never had a rifle do what this one does with that many weight bullets. I shoot many boomers, but this .270 WSM has earned my great respect and continues too, so much so that I have one of the new Model 70 Winchesters ordered and can't wait. My grandsons are licking their chops for one of them to shoot, thus far they havn't been able to pry it from my hands. Just more stirring from my end. stir Good shooting.

I've had my 270 wsm since they came out, I stepped down from my 300 win to it. I would have to say, I have been happy with it, is it needed no. I would say it's like comparing 270 win to 270 wsm is the same as comparing /06 to 300 win. Both are good as is, but the mag version, just adds another 100 yds range to it.
