Remington has chambered it, I don't know if it is stainless or not.. I am looking at ordering a barrel to mount on a Ruger 77 Mk 2 right now..

Either that or a 25 Remington...

Mainly just to be different...or nostalgic in the case of the 25 Remington...

I believe they are/were a limited prodution item, but Rem did make some heavy barrel guns in SS in 6.8 SPC.

i wonder what the accuracy is like in that bolt gun. like how much farther the range is most of the tests have been in like a 18" barrel right. i am putting an ar-15 together in the 6.8mmspc with a 24" bull fluted barrel can't wait to see the range.

I read that this round was made to replicate the performance of 7.62 x51 in an m4 platform.
if so why would you make a 6.8 in a rifle that is chambered for 7.62x51 to start with.

Crusher:

In my case, I had a 223Rem bolt gun and wanted a bit more power in a factory offered round. Mostly it was a fun project, but now the rifle is in my pickup truck 24/7.

Crusher,

IIRC the cartridge is a 270 on a 25 Remington case.
I do not see how it can compare to the 308, but it does fly by the 223 in an M16/M4 platform, and that was the raison d'etre for its existence IMHO.

I totaly agree on a re bbl or if thats just wat you want great.

I just dont see buying one new when the same rifle is in 308 works better with ammo cheaper and at 7-11. or 7-08 or 260
I re did my 223 bolt gun necked up to 338 straight bbl swap with great results but I know it is not practical.

Idaho ss I dont think they got the same performance but their stated goal was to get the same arc out of the m4 as m14 with a heavyer blt than 5.56

Crusher:

The 338/223 sounds like a neat idea, what kind of velocity are you getting with it?

Your right on on with the 308Win argument, in my case it was a cheap enough project to make it worth it.

I had a look at the Rem LTR in 6.8 the other day.
Nice. No ammo to be had anywhere though, which would be a bit of a pain...

Cheers, Dave.

I bought a Contender rifle bbl in 6.8 for my daughter to hunt deer with. It's a 23" bbl. So far it's been a real pain to get a good load developed for. I pick it back up next week from the smith. Had the stock cut down to fit her. then it's more load testing...
