Which brand of mass produced rifle is the most accurate “out of the box” that you have ever shot (not necessarily owned), and “out of the box” in this case means not necessarily new, but with original barrel and trigger and no bedding job done etc

Sako, without a doubt takes my vote (had a 6.5x55 and a .204Ruger). Never bought any other brand (other than a .17HMR CZ452 which needed recrowning and the stock relieved to not touch the barrel), and I don't think I will be any time soon

I voted for Tikka.....Sako/Tikka barrels are exceptional.....Savage barrels shoot but are 'rough'

I see you're from Denmark....in which case the choice is Schultz & Larsen hands down!

I have two CZ's, a 22LR 452 and a 223 527 Varmint. Both were amazing out of the box. The 527 has an excellent set trigger and when I'm right will shoot 1/2 MOA or less with the right load. Never did anything but put a scope on it.

I love my CZ's but the Savage was a Tack Driver.
In all fairness to the Savage. It was a 30 year old gun that was treated VERY badly. I put a new barrel on it but that didn't cover all the abuse it had taken.
I think they are by far the best value on the market. I just like Mauser actions.

I voted Steyr-Mannlicher but I must say it was the previous version with the rear locking lugs. I have had several Model M/MIII Professionals in .270 and .30-06 and they all shot under 1/2 inch with cheap Remington and Winchester ammo with no tinkering. One in .270 shot consistantly under 1/4 inch

I have used a couple of modern Steyr Mannlicher's one in 222rem and one in 22/250. Both were extremely accurate with multiple loads - genuine and repeatable .25 - .3"

I have a Sako 75 in 22/250 now. It will do in the .2's no bother. But only with one load - I have not bother to try it with anything else. Also, it is not exactly stock, it has been shortened and recrowned by a very good smith, plus the trigger has been worked over.

Just waiting for a McMillan for it.

You’re right but the most accurate I’ve tried til now is my Blaser R93 6,5x55 match, I’ve just ordered a Tikka T3 Varmint in 30.06 and will give that a go before I vote

Remington XR-100 in .223. With mine I shot a(as in single) .111 in a match and consistantly shot in the .2s in matches.

not on the list was my number one choice, Cooper. Given the paramiters my two guns that shoot the best (no mods) are my Browning and Sako.

I just talked with my neighbor. He just got a Savage Scout in 308 last week.
He showed me a 10 shot 1.1 inch group with Federal ammo.
Damn thing flat shoots.

The single most accurate rifle I have shot is a Ruger Mark II Target in .223Rem. It is a 10 shot 1/2moa gun with little effort at the bench. But for all the rifles I work up loads for, I am always happy to see someone bring in a Weatherby Accumark. The triggers are always decent, and with most bullets, but especially TSXs they have all been tack drivers, some have been nail drivers, and quite a few will drive finishing nails. I like Coopers too, but only load for a couple, and I also like 700 Senderos and VSSFs. As for a brand in general the guns I see most, Rem - Win - Browning - Wby - Savage - Ruger have all had their share of picky eaters and guns that need help ranging from bedding to re-crowning and everything in between. Once you get into Blaser and Cooper and even Accumarks and Senderos you are starting to get at least custom components and in some cases basically a custom build. It seems everyone has at least one or two models you can bet will really shoot from the box. In most cases you get what you pay for with Savage being the most common pleasant exception.

Not on the list but a Merkel K1. Accuracy that at times can be boring.

None of the above. Winchester model 70 classic, 300RUM, sub MOA groups.

I answered Remington as I got a straight out of the box .223 that is the most accurate factory mass produced gun I have ever had. It will also shoot anything I can get in the chamber well, as long as its less than 70 grains bullet weight.

Having said that, its also the ONLY Remington that I brought that shot worth sour apples, the rest all needed help.

In my experience the Savages are consistently accurate, but I haven't really owned any european made guns except for one Merkel and one steyr scout, unless you count the military ones which don't shoot all that well anyhow.

I'm a died in the wool Blaser shooter, but hate to say the Sauer 202, and 200's that I've owned and shot were the most accurate guns out of the box bar none!!! My Sauer 200 in 9.3x62 and 308 barrel is a true one holer either barrel!

My Browing BBR, in 30-06, made in 1978. Smooth as silk action. Sub-moa groups all day long with a variety of bullet weights.

Remington CDL 35 Whelen, I've had some dogs too.

Never known or even heard of a Tikka that wouldn't shoot, same goes for Blasers.

I hear nothing but praise for the Savage though, I just have no experience of any.

Sauer 202's are very good also from what I've seen.

I shoot 8 Model 70 Winchesters, two Browning A-Bolts, a Sako and a Weatherby, if you can use that in your poll. All are shot extensively and hunted with by me, my son and grandsons. All will shoot one holers with their favorite loads if the shooter does his part. Good shooting.

Have a Remington 40XBBR in 222 Magnum, Made in 1972. It still shoots .267 inch groups all day long. has never went over .380 yet. it has a book countis 1740 rounds. Still shoots agood as the day I bought in new in the box.

I went Savage as well. I have only bought one (Police Carbine .223) and I can't find anything it doesn't like. It's so boringly accurate, I don't shoot it that much.

My friend got a Savage. It doesn't shoot. After a range session, it may take you a week to get the copper out of the worthless barrel.

After examining the action and workmanship overall, I consider them to be junk.

I have 3 Browning A-Bolts that are truly 1/2 MOA guns. Go with something like that.

Since the thread is already going this way, I'll pose the question, are Savages really any more accurate than the rest of the production guns out there? I had one and it shot alright, but like stated above, my Browining A-bolt printed some awesome groups as well. I have a factory remington in 222 that will rival most benchrest guns. I don't buy new guns and I'm not partial to any single brand of firearm. However, the savage that I did have shot alright but it felt cheap, the plastic follower looked like something out of a toy gun, the bore was rough as a cob and it didn't extract or eject worth a crap. I sometimes wonder why Savage has this mystical following of being the most accurate cheap guns on the market.

I'm not trying to start anything here, if you love your Savages then more power to you! I'm just saying that if you want accuracy, you don't have to buy a Savage.

Furthermore, I didn't vote because I've owned a number of highly accurate rifles. Some needed some tweaking and some didn't, but it would be unfair to say one is more accurate than another.

I have owned a total of 6 Sauers in 200/202 and if you count the extra barrels in 8 calibers....from 243 to 9.3x62. I have yet to shoot a Sauer that is not at least MOA with one of the better commercial loads...Norma, RWS, Hornady, etc. They hold up too...One of the best deals in rifles today is a good used Sauer....JMHO
