Funny thing is that if he had even a smidgen of the experience he claims he wouldn't have the opinions or attitudes he has.

We all know that...

So when is someone going to start the thread where Hot Bore can tell us about his time as a Sniper during the Vietnam War?

How he taught Carlos Hatchcock everything he knew...

and how his kill numbers were over 500,000 NVA and VC killed... at ranges of 1 to 10 miles...

and how he won 3 Purple Hearts in less time than John Kerry won his!.. and don't forget to ask him about his 3 Medal of Honors.. salute

I don't care much for a new topic.

I'm just a STUPID .270 shooter with no ballistic or elk anatomy knowledge.
But at least I have killed elk..…….and with a .270

We seem to be missing a bunch of people foolish enough to think a totally rag Pre-64 Win is the Holy Grail of rifles. When they Brag on how great they are, I know their actual Hunting and Shooting first-hand experience is significantly limited to a very few rifles.

The current M70 - made by FN - is 10x better than any rag Pre-64 M70 was ever made. When you find "Craftsmen" assembling rifles with lots of hand written "Notes" scribbled about on the Blue Prints and they all use different sets of Blue Prints, what should you expect. You will not find that today at FN.
-----

By the way, I'm not going anywhere but right here at AR. I see a lot of people who posted totally ignorant stuff about Firearms and Hunting that I've called on it in the past in this thread. Give it your best shots, but the truth ALWAYS wins in the end. rotflmo flame

like a stopped clock, hot sore was right once today (digital clocks are only right once per day)

So, let's hear about your elk hunting, hotsore ... i freely admit i've shot NONE and would like to hear from a master, perhaps even a person such as yourself.

also, please educate me as to which counties hold deer populations so thick that a man can kill many thousands of them.

If you are unwilling to give the county, how about the first digit .. round it to the nearest 100 deer, if you need to.. was it 7 or closer to 8 thousand?

I mean, a man of your experience must have kept a log, or at least a running total, for records with the counties for doing pest control, at least.. you've got to have some record, there, man, and I'd like to know your best guess as to how many MANY thousand is ..

I have to tell you, should you be genuine, i would have to be amazed .. i am pretty certain my count is far below "many hundred", though i lack your keyboarding skills

Same as the dolts using 22cal on Deer - totally clueless.

I have witnessed dozens of deer killed with 22-250's and a a few elk killed with 270's.

It is common knowledge that those cartridges will get the job done. If they do not, it is the person behind the trigger. Not the fault of the cartridge. The new mono metal bullets makes them even better.

Please don't try to persuade me with your personal opinions. Been there done that experience only please.

Which you obviously do not have when it comes to these two cartridges on these respective species.

Hot Core got all his ballistic knowledge from his extensive study of CHE, that's how he knows the .270 isn't any good for killing elk no doubt. The fact that .270s (even out of pre64 M70s) have been reliably killing elk for many more years than most of us have has obviously escaped him.

Not enough CHE with a .270 to kill elk, eh Hot Core, please explain the "ballistics" of that?

Outright refusal or side stepping the question isn't setting a very good example for all the newbies you profess to be looking out for, HC.

Your reputation, such as it is, is in the toilet by not answering. Isn't it time to fess up? Or have you dug yourself such a deep hole there's no use in trying to get out?

Gentlemen: perhaps it's time to cover him over and move on. Another troll bites the dust.

Hey Teancum...

using Hot Bore's advise on elk anatomy and caliber I managed to poach shoot that Elk that was grazing in the back yard...

on his advise, I used my trusty 22 Hornet, loaded with Blue Dot and a 30 grain HP bullet...Shot it out of my Model 70 at a range of over 600 yds..

Per Hot Core's advise, I did the head shot..

it was exactly like the picture of the elk that Hot Core Sent me via PM that he shot last week in the Carolinas...

and just like his, the last words out of this elks mouth were "Moooooo".....

this elk must have weighed at least 2000 lbs!!!

As I understand the inside scoop is that today when they had an explosion at the Nosler plant in Bend..they were testing Blue Dot loads in a 22 Hornet and 270.. and were trying to apply Hot Core's CHE instructions to figure out the pressure...

they claim they were following it to the letter...but maybe they left out something important....ya think? bewildered

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Is this a private fight, or can anyone join in?

I have not killed any elk, but I sure would like to in the near future.

I will probably use a 7x57 Ackley with 160 grain Nosler partitions. That should make them fall over in my opinion.

you probably had your nose too high in the air per usual, and were standing too high on your soap box also per usual...

Yup, that .007" makes all the difference in the world versus a 270 Winchester.

On a more serious note, I've had a number of 270's, didn't kill anything with them, but just like the 7mm's better.

Also, fitting a 7x57 Ackley into an 1898 Mauser action is a snap, whereas the 270 takes a bit longer, lenthening the magazine, etc.

Well, it might be easier for him to comprehend if you had used colored type, cut & paste links, and lots of bold type, plus emoticons!

As it is, Mr Hotcore resorts to argumentum ad hominem. I'll translate it for you Hotcore...'attacking the character, motives, etc., of an opponent rather than debating the issue on logical grounds.'

Dude, you had better come clean. Nobody is ever going to take you seriously if you don't.

What I have never understood is why it irks you so how I spend MY money. I mean, it's not like I planned on giving you what I spent on premium bullets or Oehler equipment! Doing so would be both wasteful & foolish.
