I presume the 5lbs 12 oz and 6 lbs 12oz included scope. My Tikka T3 Superlite (flutter barrel version) ended up 6 lb. 14 oz. with scope. No those are bare rifle weights...add another pound for scope. In fairness the 6lb 12oz one is chambered in 338WM. My point was that your T3 is not a super lightweight in the realm of mountain rifles...actually in the middle somewhere...right where I believe they should be!

OK, I misunderstood. Although I have spend gobs of money on a pair of double rifles, and a somewhat collectible .416 Rigby, the Tikka Superlite allowed me to cobble together a mountain rifle that was accurate, reliable, and downright cheap compared to other rifles sold as "mountain rifles". Funny thing is, once Joyce used it to fill her Moose tag two years ago all I hear from her now is how much more enjoyable it was to carry that Tikka than her beloved Ruger 7 x 57. She has no issue with shooting a 7mmRemMag in a sub 7 pound platform. I've always liked to hike for my hunting so a lighter rifle is something I have been interested in for a long time. Back in the 1970's long before the lightweight mountain rifle craze had hit I traded an almost new Remington 760 .30-06 for a used Husqvarna lightweight 06 that all up weighed just under seven pounds with a 4X scope. I carried that rifle for many years and shot a lot of game including my best elk ever with it. The only thing I really didn't care for was its twenty inch barrel. For an 06 it had a lot of muzzle blast and with some powders it really lit up the surroundings when fired. Eventually a divorce made me sell it. But in the back of my mind I've always thought if I ever built a lightweight rifle for the mountains one based on that Husqvarna action with at least a twenty two inch barrel would be a nice way to go. Bit of a lightweight gun nut, stems from mountain goats being the bulk of my living and aviation for the rest of the year. Light is everything, I'm a fit 30 something mountain guide but every ounce shaved spells more opportunity and a better, more enjoyable experience no matter how good one's legs. Have built, used, or am building (bare weights), -Sub 4 lb Hagn Mini 5.6x50 Magnum (ongoing) -Full Titanium Satterlee M98 .375 2 1/4 8 5.75 lbs -Kimber Mountain Ascent .308 4.8 lbs -Kimber Adirondack .308 4.8 lbs -Kimber Mountain Ascent .280AI 5.65 lbs -Sako Carbonlight .308 5.2 lbs I don't have a favourite, they all offer something, the Kimbers are the best value but I did have fees issues on my Adirondack, since resolved. I'm building the Hagn to go absolute bare minimum on a mountain gun to see what I think of it, if it can be 3 1/2lbs before scope I'll be smitten. Good chance I may do good peep sights to save more weight.

I like how you think angus!! My 416 ruger is 5lb 11oz with a peep. What a joy to just hold in my hands!! Light weight rifles are where it's at. Guys who like them heavy usually haven't used a light one much! Ideal mtn rifle for me would be a 300 win, around 5lb. CDs turret system from Leupold. Nothing in the mtns on planet earth is that bulletproof. I'd be happy with that set up.

I'm sure that's a joy to hold but it must be a terror to shoot. .

Chuck, You could have just left yours up there for me and I wouldn't have had to carry mine since we hunted the same ridge. That one man Big Agnes is fine if the wind isn't blowing. I wouldn't recommend it for bad conditions. I thought it was going to collapse on me a couple times during that hunt. For sure Brandon, I approached Stuart (Satterlee) to make me a full titanium M98 action, and almost everything is titanium not just the receiver like most titanium commercial models. When I first approached him about my action I was hunting for myself and guiding casually, and envisioned an ultralight and all weather but full featured M98 7x57. Then a couple years ago I bought my own operation that focuses on coastal Grizzly / Browns, I'd hunted them before but it'd be a once in two or three years deal. Suddenly it was full time Grizzly hunting plus many more non-bear hunts in Grizzly territory, I'm a hundred miles south of Alaska on the BC North Coast for reference, lots of bears and lots of run in fun. Asked Stuart to change me to a .375 2 1/4 Rimless Nitro Express, British for 9.5x57MS and a "Kimber contour" stainless .375 barrel in a synthetic stock. This is her with the Recknagel sights dummied on, I decided to change to NECGs with a fibre optic front and am putting those on now. Overall extremely happy with it, Stuart's an artist. The bolt is black because it's coated, can't run titanium on titanium as it galls. It's actually really mild on the shoulder, think I'm settling on the 235gr CEB Raptor.

We speak the same language for sure! Recoil's over in a split second. So's a bad Grizzly / Brown charge, however you can walk away from the recoil.

Glad to hear Skip and Paul, CEB sponsored my operation this year and academically they're my perfect bear bullet. Look forward to a lot of on bear testing, they sent 500 bullets when I asked for three boxes so there'll be plenty. And appreciate the compliments on the rifle gentlemen I'm very happy with her, replaces this excellent but sodden heavy beast. Startling for me to think it's almost half the weight.
