Sandro, the Match dot has a choice of smaller dots that you can use. 2, 4,6 and 8 MOA dot sizes. All you have to do it turn the switch. You also have 11 brightness setting for each dot size. The Four dot has dot sizes 4, 8 , 12 and 16 MOA. You cover less of your target with smaller dots. Also Leupold has a EER scope for pistols in the 2.5 X 8 X 32. I have one on my S&W 460 Mag barrel. Whitworth gave you the web-site so check out the Ultra-dots. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. Thank you ! I had not read the specifications page. I plan to use it for target/plinking at the range (hunting with handguns is not allowed in Italy), maybe the matchdot is a better choice ?

For target shooting, you are probably right. I like the simplicity of the Ultradot 30 for hunting. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

The Match dot will work great for your intended use. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Member of the Delaware Destroyers Member Reeders Misfits NRA Life Member ENDOWMENT MEMBER NAHC Life Member DSA Life Member

I have 3 2x Weaver pistol scopes on , .41 mag, .44mag. and a .480 and all have held up just fine. The little Weaver eblem on the side of the scope came off the first time I shoot the .480 but that has been the only issue.

I just received my Ultradot Matchdot ! Looks great ! I ordered it from Ultradotwest and they shipped it out very fast ! I installed it on my S&W 629 using the supplied rings and sighted in using my Site Lite boresigter. Looking forward to test it at the range, unfortunately I have to wait till saturday. Do you think I should replace the supplied rings with better ones ?

Sandro, you can if you want, but the Ultra-dot being so light, the supplied rings will hold up. But that is just something you will have to decide after shooting it. My 44 Mag has the supplied rings on them. The Ultra-dot Match-dot I have on my 475 Linebaugh has Leupold 30 mm rings on them. I have a Leupold duel dovetail mount on the gun, so I could not use the supplied rings on it. Let us know how that work out for you. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. I like red dots but i'm terrified that when that big buck steps out I will raise my handgun and discover that I forgot to turn my scope on! I have had good luck with Leupold 2X and 4X fixed power scopes as well as Burris 2-7's and Bushnell Elite 2-6X scopes.

What kind of torque should be used for the screws ? Leupold scopes rings usually require about 15 in*lbs but I guess it could be less for the Ultradot ?

I use the same as used with the Leupold rings. 15 inch pounds. It is a standard for that size screw. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Member of the Delaware Destroyers Member Reeders Misfits NRA Life Member ENDOWMENT MEMBER NAHC Life Member DSA Life Member

I tried the Ultradot at the range, 25 yards for now. It's just great. Target pickup is very fast, faster than using an optic, expecially when you're not using a bench. 2 and 4 dot sizes are the most useful in my opinion, with 4 being the one you can use succesfully with any kind of target. I just had problems with the rings since the screws got loose after about 30 rounds (not hot loads). I'm thinking about replacing them with better ones, still can't decide among Warne Maxima and Leupold PRW Perma rings. Any suggestion ?

Both are great rings, however I do like them Warne Maxima rings the most. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Member of the Delaware Destroyers Member Reeders Misfits NRA Life Member ENDOWMENT MEMBER NAHC Life Member DSA Life Member

I replaced the rings that come with the Ultradot with a pair of Warne Maxima 30mm Low. They seems to hold very well

Because of the ring spacing issue for thet particular model UD on the SRH I wound up going w/a weigand base w/mine. If I had it to do all over again I think I would've went w/the setup you have.

I know it's not a fixed power but FWIW, the 2-7x Burris on my 500 S&W has performed flawlessly for several years now. It's mounted with an aluminum Weigand base and two, count'em, two rings. Not three, or four, just two. They haven't as much as quivered in the hundreds of rounds I've put through that thing since I put the scope on it.

I didn't mean to imply that the weigand approach wasn't good. Just that w/a UD 30MM with its smaller body than the UD Match Dot would make for a trim, neat less cumbersome rig by using 30MM Ruger/Warne rings mounting it directly to the gun w/o having an additional base much like Whiteworths. AND could retain the iron sight capability which I had to forego w/the weigand arrangement. At the time, having a 2MOA dot size was important to me.

odoh, don't even sweat it man! Honestly, I didn't bother reading all the posts on the thread so I never saw your comments about the Weigand base. So it's all good. I wasn't trying to assert anything about the Weigand bases. It was only for descriptive purposes. I got the Weigand for the 500 because there wasn't much else out there at the time, and the price was right.
