Let's see: You missed 4 out of 5 on identifying Encores vs. Contenders and 2 out of 3 in carbines vs. rifles.

That would give you the whopping good grade of a 25...... clap

Nice going...

Well, aren't you just deserving of the polished green turd award for trivial knowledge. Okay, if you want to call them rifles, they are your Thompson Center firearms, or are the not called that anymore because the company is now a subsidiary? I didn't know this was a test, or I guess I would have studied a bit more.

MS Hitman-

I wouldn't have said a word about anything like that if YOU hadn't started slinging mud first.

I don't tolerate that from anyone, and I can assure you the title of moderator grants you no exception.

You are indeed correct. This IS the handgun hunting forum.

So I must ask: why do rifles get brought into conversation so often?

Here are just a couple of examples of yours:

" Wound caused by a projectile produceing 2700 FPE 180 grain from a 300 win mag with am impact velocity of 2600 FPS"

"As I posted ealier about a 450 Nitro round that did not exit with 5374 FPE yet had no effect, because it failed to put a hole through a vital organ. "

These are just the tip of the iceberg -- and from your posting alone.

My post didn't even mention "rifle data" in the body text. I simply posted some photos.

So from the feeling I get, it's OK for select individuals to post whatever they want about rifles in the handgun hunting forum but NOT OK for others.

Again, it's no wonder this forum is so limited in scope as one little clique tries and rules the roost.

FIVE PAGES Not that I've never been in one of these pissing contests on here, but I have to question some of you "regulars". You ALL know that it only takes a word to two from another to lock you into the "Pissed Off" position on your Fun Meter, so why do you take such great pleasure in doing it. It's like poking a bobcat. You know there's going to be hell to pay and even if you win, your ass is still scratched up in the deal.

When someone makes a post about using a .17 Daisy Air Pistol to kill African elephants, you HAVE to know it's going to piss someone off. And then you run around screaming about your character being attacked. WHY? If you make a post showing a picture of a deer being shot head on and on bullet impact his sides swell to twice its size and you use that to "prove" the "hydraulic shock" of a bullet, someone's going to hyperventilate and then it starts all over. WHY? Everyone of you has formed a mental picture of your adversary on here and nothing said or done is going to change that picture. Yet I can almost guarantee that if you sat down in a room, not knowing each other, these same discussions would take place without any of the bloodletting. WHY? Because you can hide behind a damned keyboard with impugnity, that's why.

So how about, maybe just till Christmas passes, some of you guys suck it up, grow up, and stop stirring the post with shit you know is going to incite someone else. And WHEN YOU DISAGREE, as there's no doubt in my military mind you will, then just admit that your views aren't the same and MOVE THE HELL ON. (I've suggested to Hitman that we take all the instigators and put them in that "octagon" where those cage fighters play, and let you just beat each other senseless so the rest of us can enjoy the category, but he figures there'd be an argument as to what size the cage had to be.)

Now, Merry Christmas to all - even you miserable bastards. LMAO dancing

My consideration is always for those new guys or lurkers that read here. Some should NEVER hunt with less then a 30-30 or go anywhere near a revolver of ANY kind.
The old timers did very well with the guns they used and many here can do the same. But they shot all the time, knew their limitations and were great shots.
Now we have the city folk that run to a range and rattle off a box of ammo from their M16 or blast double action with the .38 at 7 yd's. Then they buy the biggest magnum rifle they can find, get it bore sighted and go to the woods.
There are the others that never take their gun out until opening day, not a single practice shot all year.
It is a far different world then it used to be when one .22 bullet better feed the family.
A complete lack of respect for a deer's life and no love of the animals is rampant today.
Most of us here are not like that, thank God. Just remember, we are not here alone! We do NOT want to get like the videos on TV or the trash in magazines.
There is never a reason to argue here because some CAN do things others can't. I know my limitations and respect all of yours. We just do not want to push things onto others that have not learned from experience yet.
All of you also know that some NEVER learn because of the short time in the field or at the range.
Sadly, the old days are long gone!

Oh,are you feeling left out? Perhaps the context was misleading. Of course useing the figures of rifles to illustrate a point in reguards to energy figures, has some how been translated to pictures of game taken with rifle with no reguard to making a point. What's the scoop.

Why are you so angry?

Oh can we??!! Pretty please?!! Big Grin

Well said, George! But I do think that we had some real meaningful discussion a couple of pages ago after Hitman redirrected, and we were all acting like adults. So, as you can see, we are capable of mature discourse, we just don't exercise it enough......

Merry Christmas back at you!!

Just got back from sighting in my slug gun and taking the wife to the shooting range to get her 22 handgun sighted in for deer season...(joke) lol. Actually just to get some target practice and blow up 400 rounds of 22 ammo. It was a lot more fun that having a pissing contest here. But now I see everyone has calmed down, Isn't life great.

Good post George, and they all seem to know each others "hot buttons" as well as what the opposition posted 3 years ago. I think we are at the point of diminishing returns on this thread. People are just repeating themselves.

Does that make me a "they?" Big Grin It was a good thread that George made. This post was fine up until a little while ago. It is quite alright if we have differing opinions. It's when we get attacked for our differing opinons that there is a problem.

That's just the nature of the beast... It is like someone posted above, we know which buttons to push to set the other guy off. You don't have to call someone a name to push his buttons. Me I say it how I feel, and I call it like I see it. That's just how I roll. Cool

Thanks to Redhawk, we now have our answer. Redhawk posed the 38 Special "for Deer" question on Greybeard and the following was posted

http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/i...,158968.new.html#new
quote:
Notice, that this year, I used a .357 Magnum, and took two deer with two shots. My two kills with the .38 were incidental to a hunt. One, was I was retrieving a book my girlfriend left on the treestand, and the other was a day I was not hunting, but I can't turn down a source of sausage during season when offered. The LRN load was standard 755 fps, dead broadside, pass through. The deer with the 110 factory Remington SJHP was also dead broadside. Though this one did not exit, but killed the deer. Either time I wasn't actually "hunting" deer. But when you are checking your property during a 2 1/2 month gun season, you tend to be armed at all times in case the meat comes your way. Not many deer, or other animal, can withstand both lungs being deflated, regardless of bleeding. I don't recommend the .38 but if close enough to your target, a slow lead slug that just dredges through ain't a bad thing when you need meat. If you get both lungs then there is no problem. In Texas, it's not a legal issue. Any centerfire cartridge is legal. We are all hunters and have our own experiences. Personally, a .308 level cartridge in a 10-14" barrelled Contender, with a 10x scope, is not a handgun, it is a short barrelled rifle. Many see it different and that is great, and I respect that, because we are hunters. Nobody is right, and nobody is wrong. Just keep getting meat in the oven, and keep the barrells warm.......

I originaly thought that a proper load would need to be found, but the gentleman above killed 2 Deer with 2 shots useing "generic" ammo

"I killed a lot of hogs up to about 200 to 225 pounds with the 357 and the ols Speer 160 Semi Wadcutter 1/2 jacket wiith a health dose of 2400".
Bobby, any idea what you were running with the above load? I just tried 14.5 grains 2400 with the Speer 160 grain half jacket and got repeatable X ring accuracy at 25 yards. I just chronographed them and they were averaging 1295 fps. The load is fairly stiff out of my 686 (6" barrel) but quite manageable. You can PM me if you want.
Thanks, Peter.
