Hi all, I picked up my new 475 BFR tonight. It looks great and I can't wait to load some and go shoot it.

I put a Houge Monogrip on it and it fit pretty close, but left an edge that looks like it might cut me under recoil.

I'm thinking of takeing the dremel to the grip to inlet it and let it sit higher on the frame.
The only molds I have for this so far are the Lee 325 and 400.
anyone have any good loads to start with?

Good luck with your new BFR. The .475 makes the 44 look like a 38. I hope to fire my .475 this weekend with factory Hornady loads. I know I am going to need a light pracice load but have yet to settle on a bullet or powder.

I've only got 60 rounds through my 6 1/2" BFR .475 so far but the first time I lit off a 400 grainer @ 1300 fps the front edge of the trigger guard took a nugget out of my trigger finger. There is kind of a sharp edge there so a pair of shooting gloves might be a good idea.

Two loads that worked well so far are a 370 gr. CP with 24.5 gr of H4227 for 1170 fps.
Also tried a 325 gr. Speer Gold Dot over 13 gr. of Unique for 1185 fps ave.
Both loads were very pleasant to shoot and grouped at 1 1/2" @ 25 yards with iron sights and my bi-focals. I'm thinking this power level is plenty for any whitetail deer around here. I'm getting ready to order an Aimpoint 9000 SC with a 4 minute dot and Warne rings before hunting season.

This gun and the BFR .45/70 both impress me for fit, finish and accuracy. The .500 X-frame has been gathering dust lately but I've got a Warne base for that and when the Aimpoint gets here it'll be a quick transfer from one gun to the other.

DogHawg, was it the inside front of the trigger gaurd? I may take a polishing wheel to it before I go shoot it.
I have some of the Lee 400's loaded up to try today.
I do have a shooting glove somewhere, I may have to dig it out.
Have you seen the finger recoil pads that Brownells has? I picked one up for my 470NE as the trigger gaurd really smacks my middle finger.
I'm thinking about cutting the barrel off to 5.5" to make it abit more packable similar to my 4 5/8" 45 Blackhawk.

They're absolute tack drivers. Try 25.0 of H110 under a 400 grain hard cast.....this load cuts an 1" or less all day long in my BFR (@ 25 yards off the bench).

Yes it was the inside front of the trigger guard and I'm sure it would be easy to polish. As Lee said, these things are super accurate. My 1 1/2" 10 shot group had seven in a ragged hole and the flyers are more a reflection of middle aged eyes than anything else.
Got a pair of pigskin shooting gloves at Gander Mountain. Even those had a "Made in China" tag on them. Frowner
