Isn't Boomstick describing the 460 Smith?

I think so. It would only fit on the X-frame or I guess BFR. I think that is the point, S&W gets to pound on Ruger and Taurus until they come out with a longer frame. Will a linebaugh fit in an X-frame?

o.k....it seems the 460 xvr seems to be the same thing some wildcatter was doing...s&w you have stolen another good idea...does the xvr shoot 45 colt and 454 casull? i liked the idea of a not so big frame and the ability to shoot all three like this wildcatter was doing.

I'm not so sure you could fit anything much longer than a Casull in a standard gun.

i have the S&W 460 and have been looking for a smaller gun or any other gun that can chamber this round. no one else currently offers a revolver in 460 yet, at least that i have found. but i believe it wont be long before they have one in a BFR. and Thompson Center already has a barrel for the Encore pistol. i think any one who can do a 500 S&W can do a 460. it is a little longer than the 500 though.

one cool thing about the smith is that if you are the origanal owner of a registered gun, smith & wesson will replace the barrel after 1400 rounds for only 100 dollars. due to the high pressures that this cartridge makes, throat erosion and flame cutting can make for short life.

The .460 S&W should hold-up fine with bullets in excess of 300 grains. I'm not a big fan of 200's at 2,300 fps however....as mentioned, it'll probably lead to forcing cone erosion.

gentlemen,

I'm the one who came up with the 454 Long and that's me in the pics at the 2004 SHOT show.

The case I have is 1.6 in length the 460 smith is 1.79. When i designed mine I did it with the intentions of using lower pressures.

I have the prototype brass and the only barrel right now for it is a test barrel I had made for the encore. I've been waiting to see How S&W's 460 performs.

Boom stick,

if you like I can send you a couple pieces of the brass. I also have an extra reamer. the idea was to use ruger maximum frames or Have Gary reeder use his pro-hunter frame. Also it can be loaded using standard 454 dies.

The brass isn't cut down from anything. I had it made. The original pre-prototype brass was standard454 casull drawn out to 1.6

I had a 1,000 cases made.
