o.k. there seems to be a new(ish) sherrif in town http://www.gunblast.com/images/SHOT2005/Day2/DSC06334.jpg http://www.jrhgunmaker.com/main.html the 500 case trimmed to fit in freedom arms wheelguns. this is just slightly better than the 475 and 500 linebaugh as far as fps is concerned. what do you guys think? good case .5 bullets and in a reasonable sidearm size hmmmm could this be a perfect storm. brass is being manufactured and factory ammo to boot. i still like the 475 obviously but i think this will catch on. what say you? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. The 500 JRH has a smaller rim than the SW 500 this is done so that it fits a FA cylinder. I have a SBH SW 50 1.4" done by Dave Clements, this is a SW case cut to 1.4". The 500 special as made by Cor-Bon is NOT the same thing as a JRH.The 500 special is a different rim size and will not fit the JRH conversions. I spoke to Jack Huntington about doing a gun for me a year ago because I had a FA 475 Line that I was thinking about converting ,problem was when I called Buffalo-Bore for cases they wanted $1.00 PER case ,so that ended that idea.I see that Buff-bore is making rounds for the JRH I will say his work looked very good,I think there is someone on this forum that has that conversion Sean

I haven't had a chance to shoot the 500 JRH, but a friend has had Jack build him at least a 1/2 dozen different Ruger conversions, and I can attest to the quality of Jacks work. Jack was the first one to make 475 Linebaughs on the Freedom Arms mdl 83 by boring out 454's, several years before FA offered a 475 on the mdl 83. He isn't in the same fit/finish leage as say Hamilton Bowen, but for workman like accurately machined revolvers at reasonable prices, Jacks the guy to go to. I think my favorite of the guns my buddy has had done is the aluminum grip framed round butted bisley 45 colt with a 4" barrel from a FA 454 casull, and the 45 colt cylinder machined back to lighten it up. He also had a 500 Linebaugh done on the SRH, that was a handful! __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

You can get the BFR factory built in their custom shop in 500 JRH #2, what ever that is. I was going to go that route, but then found a BFR in 475 Linebaugh for $635. To buy the 500 JRH from Magnum Research is $900 for the gun in 50AE, then $300 for the JRH cylinder and $40 shipping back. They will do other barrel lengths for $50. I got an email from them the other day, saying they had finished one and test fired it with factory ammo and that everything went well. Now I just need some more play money. I wonder if I can cancel x-mas? No probably not. Anybody want to buy about 1000 sticks of bullet lube?

Freedom Arms is going to release the .500 Wyoming Express. It's a belted case, ~1.35" in length, and shoots a .500" slug. Should be a thumper. Lee Martin http://www.singleactions.com

Just try the 500 S&W before spending a lot of $$$ on a modified 50 cal. You won't be disappointed!!! Barstooler

Paul you have apparently never seen one of Jack's best quality revolvers because they take a back seat to no ones finish work. I have owned Bowen revolvers and they are quite nice but Jack's top end work stands on it's own merits with any makers.Jack prefers to make working revolvers for hunters, but if you want a high finnished revolver he does outstanding work,of course the price is higher.

True, I haven't handled any of Jacks best quality guns. For the money, his hunting revolvers are as good as you can get for a well executed functional and accurate revolver. For some reason he seems to be one of the least recognized custom revolver smiths, and I don't know why. Perhaps he doesn't charge enough and isn't cantakerous enough, and I only say that half jokingly. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

Lar 45 Actually that was my BFR that was test fired at Magnum Research a few days ago. Jim up in Pillager Minn. built me an extra cylinder for my 50AE BFR in .50GI a few months ago, and has just recently finished another cylinder for .500JRH #2. This #2 version will also allow .500 special ammunition to be chambered in the .500JRH cylinder. Jack Huntington is also converting a SRH to .500JRH #2, and should be done in early December. I also have an old model Vaquero that I will have Jack convert to .500 S&W special early next year. Bart

I think for a shorter length barrel that the 1.4" case would be a lot more effecient at getting reasonable velocities. What is the 500 JRH #2? And the 500 S&W special? How much does Hunington charge for a base line conversion on your gun? I didn't see any of that info on his page. I heard that he was going to be makeing rifles more these days and lay off of the pistols for a long time.

Hi Lar, In my Clements SW 500 1.4" case,I can get 1350 fps with a 455gr WFNPB,1550 fps with a 395gr WFNGC and 1700 fps with a 330 KTGC, these are not maximum loads. Sean

The .500 JRH #2 is the .500 S&W case trimmed back to 1.4" with the standard diameter case rim, so that the .500 S&W special can also be fired in it. The .500 special is the .500 S&W case trimmed back to 1.285" (.44 mag length). The .500 JRH #2 is only suitable for cylinders that have a large enough diameter to accomodate the normal size case rim.(the SRH, BFR) The FA revolvers do not have a large enough cylinder for this, so those guns are chambered for the original .500 JRH that uses cases with the rim diameter turned down to fit the FA sized cylinders. Now we have the .500 Wyoming Express which FA now offers. This round uses a BELTED case at 1.355". Makes no sense to me....to sacrifice cylinder strength for an unneeded brass belt. Oh well...maybe they need some kind of gimmick to get noticed... who knows... Bart

??? When I spoke to Jack 1-1/2 ago,Jack told me to contact Buffalo Bore for cases,so hopefully he has decided to sell the cases at a better price. All I can say is $1.00 per case was way too much. Sean
