and they have 5 holes now. The Target Gray long barreled guns are back, as well as an Alaskan. I've had no serious issues with my 6 holer... I'm kind of glad to have that extra round. John Davies Spokane WA

It's true!!! LINK: http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdResults?fu...ct=Yes&type=Revolver Finally they swallowed their "6-shot pride" TBEAR, many customers complained that high-end .480 loads would stick in the cylinder after firing, being very difficult to eject. This problem was likely caused by the very thin cylinder walls stretching slightly during firing then "clamping down" on the empty brass. A 5-shot revolver allows much more steel around the cartridges. Some .454 owners complain of the same problem. I experience it in my.454 to some degree with super-hot loads. I would consider selling my 6-shot .454 and buying a 5-shot if they offered one and I could do the deal without taking too big a hit. Why? Because serious big-bore revolvers are 5-shots, not 6. Also, even though the SRH's strength is known to be tank-like, I would feel better seeing some more steel wrapped around a cartridge that can generate 50-65,000psi.

im glad ruger kept at it. i just bought a taurus in 480 and its a very nice gun. i heard alot about sticky extraction in the rugers du to the 6 round cylinder. i personally never questioned the strength of the ruger i just though the raging bull felt better in my hand and was more attractive. id be interested to see what wildcat rounds could be safely chambered in either gun.

Not interested in either one. Most people I know have been begging the factory for a 5-shot SA Bisley in .480Ruger. These to be had with a couple different lengths of barrel. Well, they did the 5-shot DAs, the SA cylinders would be easier. That is great news! Let the easy .475 Linebaugh conversions begin! On a similar note, I would love to see a 5-shot Super Blackhawk as well........ "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Funny the only sticky case problem I had with my SRH 454 was with Hornady Lot#99. Even after reloading that brass with 300 XTP Mags at Max powder charge 1650 FPS -no sticky cases! Could it have been an overload? One shot One Kill

Gary Reeder was talking about this on his forum recently. He said a number of 6 shots had been converted to 475 Linebaugh, and the cylinders were blowing apart. ______________________ Age and Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth and Skill

The SAAMI MAP for the the 480 is 48500 PSI and 50500 PSI for the 475 Linebaugh. Hardly much of a difference and certainly not enough to blow cylenders. The Ruger 480's are proofed at 1.5 X 48500 = 72750 PSI. _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

I understand that there wasnt an issue with strength and that it was simply extraction...... "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

Six years ago I said the SRHs should have had five holes in the cylinder rather than six. It's about time Ruger got there head outta their anus and made this correction. Now that Ruger is willing to build a 5 shooter there is no reason not to have a 5 shot super blackhawk .480. I'll vote for a 5&1/2 stainless bisley. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

I'm glad to hear it's back. I'm thinking kinda on the same lines as Sergeant Sabre. If I could trade my 6 shot for a 5 shot I'd do it. I wouldn't pay more than a couple bucks to do it though. 5 shots are plenty and it would be more convenient; I keep my brass in batches of 20 and 6 doesn't go into 20 in an even amount.
It did not stick with reloads because the brass work hardened and did not expand as much, thus the cylinder couldn't tighten down on the case as much.
