jeffeossojust bought a 625 mountain gun in 45 LC
What's been ya'll experiences with them?
How much do they weigh?
I can't believe I paid LESS for SW than a 45LC Redhawk...
My normal working load has been 225HPs at 1150, not a very "big" load, at all.

PeterCongratulations! That should be a nice gun. Sorry I don't know the weight, but post pictures when you get it. They are handsome guns.

jeffeossothanks ... it was a strong tossup between the redhawk 4" in 45LC and the 625... then i found a NEW 625 for LESS than the ruger..
poof, bob's your uncle

OLBIKERThat is really a nice carry piece. One that is on my wish list.

nordrsetaMy Mtn Gun is a 44 magnum from one of the pre-catalog runs but it's my go to beltgun. In a pistol of the Mtn Gun's weight the 45 Colt makes much more sense. If you're still looking for a holster the Sparks 200AW
http://www.miltsparks.com/200AW.htm is a superior rig; fast and secure. Enjoy.

jeffeossofound it on gunbroker, of all impossible places, brand new.
theres another for under 650, there as well
Thanks on the holster, though I tend to stitch my own leather ...
its going to be 240gr XTP at or about 900, for its breaking in load .. very mild
09 March 2009, 07:49
Rick RYou're going to like it. The Mountain Gun is a revolver you can carry on your belt all day and actually hit something with should the mood move you. Mine is a .44 Mag but it is normally loaded with a 240gr SWC and 10.0gr of Unique.
Nice comfortable load for a day's shootin'
10 March 2009, 07:18
jeffeossoman, I dodged a bullet on this one.. i was torn between the 625 and the redhawk in 45lc 4" .. O M G, the redhawk is like picking up a lathe-- and i bet its hallaaccrate.. but a small of the back carry, on a 2" belt, would result in being PANTSED the first time you stumbled...
oh well, I'll get one of those too, probably. I am as goofy for 45LC as some people are for 44 mag and 45 ACP

I think you will like the double action S&W for a field carry gun. Get some speed loaders and try them out.
Also check out the Crimson Trace Laser Grips. Just be sure and get the "rubber" ones, not the "plastic" ones.

BoxheadThey are a fine piece. I have been looking for a fairly priced early pre-MIM/lock version for some time.

jeffeossoi haven't received it yet - man, I want to be shooting this weekend!

jeffeosso<chomping at the bit>
Well, the 625 is now tied up with "waiting signature" .. i ain't very happy about THAT..
I have 200 cases and bullets waiting for me when I get home. I'll load 8.5, 9, 9.5, and 10 gr of power pistol under those 240s and see what i can see on friday. I SHOULD have it up and running, and chrono'ed, by friday afternoon
12 March 2009, 06:00
jeffeossoBoomy,
I got the 625 MG, not 25 MG.. stainless!
http://www.gunblast.com/SW625Mountain.htmI just loaded up
8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, and 10.5 gr of a working powder, and will test em friday, I hope.

PalmerI have a mountain gun in 44 mag. It is light weight, accurate and the trigger pull is smooth.
On a bear hunt in the alders or just available in the tent this is a comforting gun.
I like the DeSantis cross draw holster for this pistol.

i told you, stainless if for pistols and shotguns... i don't really LIKE either, so its better if they are stainless.

That's an excellent revolver and 45 Colt is an excellent caliber and apparently the price was "right"
There is just one problem

so, i have, of course, a meeting wednesday night, so it might be THURSDAY...
thanks on the pics, its taunting me right along!
17 March 2009, 07:49
jeffeossothanks ammo -- i can't hardly wait
I bought my 625 last year nearly the same time I bought my NM BH in 45 LC. Love both guns. Had to sell the 625. I nearly cried. Needed to pay some bills. I took the BH to Alaska for my bear hunt and ended up shooting a 62" moose @ 15 yds with it. The only reason I took the BH instead of the 625 was I could load it up to hotter specs. I loved that 625. I too got mine from a gun shop in NY posted on Gunbroker. Probabley same guy since he said he had a bunch of them.

shadob"Also check out the Crimson Trace Laser"

jeffeossoOh, I failed to mention, with the exception of my currently being built 94SSS4" (3 sss for the ammo) that this is the most accurate iron sighted pistol i have ever owned!

Mine is the same, I had to replace the rear sights with a Milett unit as the original was broken when I bought it used. Light barrel, round butt, seriously light .44 Mag factory gun shouldn't be this accurate. I've used it for everything from informal silhouette to IDPA with the same load with good effect.
Enjoy.

19 March 2009, 20:12
jeffeossoI am probably going to replace the front blade with brass, as I intend to just with it, and want the contrast!
I'll be doing the old "box of shells a week" routine here for awhile!

jeffeossothe pic with the bullets was taken at night, with a flash.. shesh.. heh
i shot, final 2 groups, a ~6" and ~4" groups at 50 yards, with a rest.
give me a year to catch up!

376steyrIf my memory serves, 39 oz more or less. My experience is that this is one fine N frame. No silly red front black out line rear sights. I conceals fine and carry well in the field. I use my standard medium .45 Colt, 10 grains Unique, 255 grain hand cast bullets. The recoil can be heavy with this load so target practice with 8 grains of Unique or WW231 does very well.

jeffeossoi just swapped the grips for a set of hogue sorgothanes .. SW sells these as teh x500 grip ..
very nice, thick, and full hand hold
