With the extra meat between the cylinders...

is it cheaper to bore it out to .500 and .510?

Say you wanted to do a 500 JRH or 500 Wyoming Express on one...would it be cheaper since you are providing the cylinder and rebore?

there could be a 480 version of the Wyoming Express by using shortened win mag brass and being able to bump up the preasures if desired to Casull level for 475 Linebaugh performance.

the closest thing is a shortened 458 Devastator

It could be pretty easily made into a .475 Linebaugh........which is lacking nothing.

Jack told me it would be around $500 or so, for the conversion. He'll bore out the cylinder, then add the barrel length of your choice. If you were to start with a 6 shot SRHK, I think its like $1200 for the conversion. I am talking about the 500 JRH only. Doubt he would do the 500WE. Never had a 500WE, but heard if the belts gets stretched too much, you have to toss the cases.

HHI812 -- Jack finished my .475 Linebaugh SRH a few months ago. He built me a 5-shot cylinder on my .480, and it is hands-down my favorite handgun. It's very accurate. He does great work.

When comparing cylinders (and cylinder frames), Freedom Arms' Model 83 .475 Linebaugh is enough longer than 6-shot Super Redhawk .480 Ruger that SRH's frame would require alteration to match FA's length. New cylinder would be needed. And the FA Model 83's cylinder, I am informed, is not as long as BFR's or the better quality Ruger SA conversions.

This appears to me to be a conversion only slightly less time consuming than converting 6-shot SRHs to five shooter. Seems as though only ratchet and hand work is accounted for in the 5-shot SRHs.

Actually, the SRH has a longer cylinder than the Freedom Arms .475 which is still shorther than the BFR cylinder length. I can't use all of the bullets that you can in the BFR unfortunately, but have found a great 420 grain WFN load that I am exceedingly happy with. The new 5-shot cylinder, made by Jack Huntington is the same dimensionally (externally) as the 6-shot it replaced.

A $700 savings is a big deal!
would there be an issue with the 500 Linebaugh????

Measuring two SRH, 6-shot .480s and one FA Model 83 .475, the dimensions in inches ±.001 are:

Cylinder OD: SRH #1 1.795; SRH #2 1.795; FA 1.750.

Cylinder length: SRH #1 1.751; SRH #2 1.738; FA 1.785.

Cylinder frame height: SRH #1 1.829; SRH #2 1.841; FA 1.763.

Cylinder frame length: SRH #1 1.930; SRH #2 1.926; FA 1.832.

Dimensions never included barrel protrusion into cylinder frame or [any] ratchet/extractor projection from cylinder. Cylinder frame length is the minimum, disregarding any machining for cylinder swing-out or loading gate relief.

SRH cylinder leaves rim thickness free. FA cylinder captures rim. So effective length of SRH is .070 (nominal) greater than it measures when compared with FA.
