this idea can work in a marlin lever action too but thats another story...(yes i have heard of the 50 alaskan Roll Eyes) also the t.c. line chambered for 500 s&w...(make the bullet a bore rider so you would not need to alter the t.c.)

i ass-u-me that it would duplicate the 50 alaskan in performance.

being that the bfr 500 s&w cylinder is the same length as the 45-70...

what do you think about a custom cast booolit that is 1.375" long and the crimp is .5" up on the bullet...that leaves .875" sticking out to get an oal of 2.5"

this should give you about .4" more room in the case for powder or just more room for lower preasure for lever actions Big Grin

anyone know how heavy a 1.375" bullet is for the 500 s$w???

lots more performance or lower preasure with almost no increase in cost except for the custom bullet.

just a brainfart i thought i'd share...

I have some of Ranger Rick's 700gn .500 bullets. they are 1.365" long with a nose length of .69"
He is a great guy to deal with.

www.mountainmolds.com has an online bullet design program that you can fart around on to see how long bullets of what weight and shape are. I don't know if he is taking orders yet or not. He also has a Green Hill formula calculator to see how long of a bullet will stabilize with a given twist.

Anybody know what the twist is for the BFR?

great info...

so you would only need a crimp right at about .5" on that bullet and viola! 500 alaskan! Big Grin

make the front of the bullet the same dia as the rifling and you would not nead to rethroat break open guns like handi rifles and t.c. guns and viola! 500 alaskan.

The BFR revolver can be rechambered and rebarrelled in to handle the 50 alaskan. With a 10" barrel and factory buff. bore ammo, I can get 1708 ft/sec with 525 grain bullets, and 1928 ft/sec with the 450 grain bullets. That is 5 shots at 3710 ft. lbs of energy. My gun was converted by Jack Huntington and it is a blaster to shoot.
