i dont realy want to get into casting bullets, not that i would not enjoy it i would rather buy them from someone who knows what they are doing. from my understanding it is better to shoot a heavier bullet around 1,100 to 1,300 fps than a light bullet 1600 fps. being that the 500s.w. has so much room, i think it can handle a good 500 to 600 gr. bullet without too much preasure. this will help my decision on which cartrige to go with either 475 or 500 linebaugh or the s.w. thanks!

I know that Hornady makes a 500 grain XTP. I'm not sure who makes them, but I've seen 600 & 700grn. cast.

I dont know of any commercial 500gr-700gr cast bullets.
With that being said I handcast 475 and 500 caliber bullets.
The SW 500 bullets run $15.00 per 50 +shipping UPS from my office if you are interested.I have load data for all the bullets. The bullets are BHN 14-16.
I have moulds in 515gr WFNGC,575gr WFNGC,600gr LFNGC and 635gr WFNGC.
I will say that when you run the 600+gr bullets to 1200 and 1300 fps you are in the 50K+ range and the 700"s MAX out at 1150 fps and 55K.
If you are interested email me.

Boomstick-It isn't so much the weight as what velocity plays in penetration with lead bullets.

The Linebaugh penetration test are very interesting all but signing on to what Randy Garrett says on his sight. Can't argue with facts as hard as it seems.
http://www.handloads.com/misc/linebaugh.penetration.tests.asp

A quote off of Randy Garretts sight.
quote:
What is apparent from testing is that penetration stops increasing at impact speeds above about 1250-1300 fps. When the impact speeds significantly surpass about 1600-fps, there is a very definite and measurable decrease in penetration depth. This raises some interesting issues regarding the relationship between kinetic energy generation and impact-effect. Although higher velocity projectiles always generate more kinetic energy they clearly do not produce deeper penetration, and when the velocities reach the levels common to today's magnums, the increases in velocity result in significantly reduced penetration. Simply stated, the faster they strike the faster they stop.

Can't argue with success and the facts from the Linebaugh Seminar although there are those that will dispute what the likes of John Linebaugh and Randy Garrett have found!!!

I can make pure lead bullets in both .475 and in .500 the draw back is there gas checked
and there pure lead so there soft and its not really a gas check pre say its more of a Base protector... its a soild copper washer with a hole in the middle attached to the leaed bullet at the base.

I can make up just about any weight you want .. from waffer thin .. to someting along the lines of a 1000 grains give or take a hundred..

I have alot of irons in the fire right now
but you might let me send you a few ... the time fram would something like 4 weeks at best though..sorry guy ..
Other then that you might try the Bear tooth bullet company... thay make leads ..

I had NEI make me a custom 690 grain gas check mould for my .500 Martin. With top-end loads, the recoil is horrendous.
