I did a trade, and got an old model Ruger Vaquero Bisley 45 Colt. Gun looks almost new and has case color frame.

Now off to the range and see what it will do.

Glad it is the old model, I will be able to shoot some of them hotter 45 Colt loads in it. Not much on cowboy loads in a 45 Colt. Big Grin

I don't know how well I will do with it at 50 yards, it has the standard blade front sight and the standard Vaquero rear sight, non adjustable. I am sure I won't be as good as you.

Thanks Whitworth, now you know how I felt when I went to the gun shop and picked it up. It is in almost new condition. Now when we get some warm weather I will head out and shoot it 50 yards, until then, I will have to be happy with 25 yards at the indoor range.

I have contemplated sending it of for some kind of 50 cal conversion, but then again I may just leave it as is.

The reason I said that was, there are Bisley models with adjustable sights, and I know they are not the Vaquero.

I have had to fool with my front sight a lot with all of the loads I have used but I actually like the sight picture, even with my old eyes. You will love the Vaquero. I sure wish they still made the old model along with the new CA one.

I had one and it drove me nuts without having adjustabe sights. I originally thought I would land on one load and use it but it just didn't happen. I also had trouble with the "case colors" having a great fondness for rust. So I solved both problems.

Adding the S&W rear sights to a fixed sight revolver has been going on for years and years. This conversion has been performed on Colts as well as others since the 1920s, if not earlier.

Boxhead, I was planning on doing a Super Redhawk conversion soon and I really like the case hardened frames. Sounds like you wouldn't recommend paying the additional $250-$300 for case-hardening?

x-caliber, thank you. I have a set of moose antler grips coming for the Vaquero Bisley.
I ordered them from Grashorns Gunworks. I have a couple of his grips on other guns. http://www.grashornsgunworks.com/

As far as case-hardening, I have a few guns with it, and as long as you keep you guns clean and apply a light coating of RB Finishing Oil you will never have a problem. At least I don't.

Whitworth can I send you a picture of the grips I have coming, I got an e-mail yesterday from Grashorns Gunworks with a picture of the grips that are finished. He was quick, I ordered them Friday, and he got them done already.

He mailed them out yesterday so I should get them by Friday or Saturday. I am also thinking of having a S&W J Frame rear sight installed, but I will have to se if I really want to do that. I have a J-frame sight coming right now if I decide to do it.

jeffeosso, I went to the S&W Forum and posted a thread looking for a J-frame rear sight, and got someone to reply right away. The only thing is, most guys want a lot for them.
