Picked up my Blackhawk 44 special today. I got one with the 4 5/8" barrel. Gun looks, feels, and shoots great. I bought a box of blaser ammo because it was all the gunshop had. The guns grips seem to be slightly smaller and the recoil was less than I expected. Fit and finish was good. I was worried that Ruger might be trying to kick these out as quick as possible. Overall I was pleased.

Sounds like a nice gun, after all it is a Ruger. Big Grin

Big guns can be loaded down to little gun levels, but little guns will always be little guns...

Nothing personal, but why a .44 Special? Just download a mag...

I don`t download my mags. That 357 frame is a real nice carry size and the 44 Special is no wimp.A good combo.Just my opinion. OB

Looks like a sweet little gun. I'm sure you'll have years of good shooting with it. It would be interesting to witness the accuracy between a gun cylindered for a Special rather than Magnum. Keep us posted. A buddy told me if he could only shoot one handgun, it would be that exact pistol.

Looks like a candidate for the "Perfect Packing Pistol". Just the kind of gun when you have all day to do nothing but carry a pistol and bum around. I like it. Big Grin

I already have a 629 5" 44 mag. The nice thing about this gun is that it is built on a 357 frame. I also wanted one in a single action. Thanks for the concern and imput.

Personally I would prefer the .429 caliber over the .358!

Enjoy 44 Mags. Carry them and shoot them a lot.

But 44 Specials on 357 frames are as nice a carry gun as they come. Load them with Keiths to match 45 GI hardball specs for light use. Or load them up to Elmer Keith 44 Special loads and take on the world.

Note that Hamilton Bowen is now making five-shot 44 Magnums on the 357 frame Ruger.

You might even add shot cartridges to your ammo. I've had a cardinal that for the last 7 months would attack my truck pecking at the mirrors and windows and pooping over it . I had to remember to cover things up. Today was the last straw .I had just gotten some shot cartridges which have #9 shot and I took the bird at 25'. I hadn't even checked the pattern .A man has his limits !! dancing
