New Starline .45 Colt brass to be used in a lever action rifle. Been loading for a long time but can not recall this kind of situation.

You should be fine without resizing, but I resize it (actually run it through a sizing die and usually it doesn’t get worked at all…). But for me, I do all my handgun brass on a Dillon progressive so it’s technically not any extra work for me.

If there is an out of round case mouth, this fixes it.

If I was using a single stage, I would skip the step given my experience of no sizing occurring with the progressive press over the years.

Starline’s QC is pretty good. I’ve used their new 45 Colt brass as above and no issues- but I don’t have a .45 Colt lever gun.

I wouldn't resize new brass unless I found it didn't fit easily into my chamber(s) or noticed mouths dented from the bag.

Life is short and case life even more so if worked unnecessarily.

I have had new handgun brass that a bullet would slide into the case with very light pressure if placed on the mouth. I want more bullet pull than that, so now I resize every new case. If it didn't need it, it doesn't work the brass much, and if it does work the brass, then it needed it.

Especially with straight walled brass, you will need to expand/bell the mouth anyway.
If the brass allows correct inside neck expansion and flare, and normal bullet seating, then no.
If not, then, yes.

SIZE IT!

What the hell, it's easy and then you won't have to worry about it. Instead of kickin' yourself in the ass later!

I size all my new brass!

Another reason not to resize oversized virgin brass could be if your rifle has a large chamber or any amount of headspace, whereby you might avoid setting off incipient head separations.

However, I am impressed at the diligence with which you guys go through all the processes. If the average shooter employed half that much care in mounting their riflescopes, the travesty of constantly centred reticles would never have taken over the world.

Standard procedure we follow with new brass.

Size
Trim
Weigh

We try to keep all our brass with 1 grain per 100 cases.

But, we but our brass in bulk, in thousands.
