I've been a customer of Midway for well over ten years. A recent order has shown their shipping policy change from "Fair and Honest", you pay only the price of shipping, to something other than. Shipping charges 2 1/2 times what the same order to Cabelas would have been. Also, their new policy of "exchanging" their customer list unless you notify them otherwise is pretty low rate, IMO.

I sent an email to customer service expressing my disappointment and received only what appeared to be an auto-response asking me if I've ordered their new catalog.

I'm going to start looking elsewhere for my shooting/reloading supplies. Is the grass greener anywhere else?

I don't by much from Midway because of their return policy.... And when you take the time to rate a product they edit out anything they don't agree with... Other than that they suck..

Puncher, I just registered at Midsouth's website and requested a catalog, however, I noticed they are not using Secure Socket Layers (https) for their online ordering. That's not good for secure online ordering!

I have recently purchased from midsouth. I had good service and you only pay actual shipping charges however they want you to over pay shipping because they dont do an exact calculation. I overpaid and they sent me a check back for the overage. Try www.powdervalleyinc.com it looks like they have even better prices on powders primers and such.

Midsouth, Grafs, lock stock. If the local guys don't have it.

I gave up on Midway due to the editing of negative opinions. If you don't want people's opinions, fine, but don't pretend you do. JMO, Dutch.

I have just started buying from Midway again.
I stopped when they started charging shipping. I only purchase from their sale page.
They just replaced under warranty a 18+ year old tumbler at no charge, I told them it was worn out and only wanted to purchase a replacement motor.
I was impressed with their customer service.
I have never had the need to return any purchases from them or any other sporting goods mail order place

Never bought anything from Midway or Midsouth. I get around 95% of my stuff from Graf's...

Never had a back-order from them, and never got the wrong item.

Their shipping and HazMat fees are honest, their packing excellent.

I just got a Pacmyer pad and weaver side mount from midway. $7.50 shipping. Rip off.

Natches has high shipping prices too.

I might order something because they are cheaper than brownells but shipping makes it cost more anyway.

I like midsouth except when they are out of stock . Ill figure up a order and only get half of what I need because they are out of stock . Other than that they are good.

It had not occured to me that Midway edited the product comments. That was the only reason I have used their site.

I order most of my stuff from Grafs and use Powder Valley for powder.

I did order a Savage ML 10 from Natchezz and that went fine. The bullets I got from them were seconds. No more seconds here thanks.

I hate shipping charges as much as the next guy, but I've learned to make buying decisions based on total price including shipping. Midway is seldom the cheapest but they have little odds and ends that are hard to find elsewhere, so they get some of my business.

In defense of Midway's "fair and honest" shipping charges, I can vouch for the fact that most mail order companies lose money on shipping (ebayers being an obvious exception). For example, I charge $6 for shipping on orders under $100. Sometimes the postage only costs $3.85, and no doubt the customer thinks "Aha, he's gouging me on shipping." Consider that I also have to pay for the shipping box, the label, the plastic bags, peanuts and bubble wrap, and tape. I have to type up and print out an invoice. On international orders, I have to fill out a customs form and sign my life away. I have to make a trip to the post office and stand in line (thanks to 9/11 the postman will no longer pick up packages unless I schedule a pickup and personally hand the package to him, so he can look me over and verify that I am not a terrorist). Then there are the times that postage costs substantially more than my flat $6 fee, and I eat the cost.

All I'm saying is, Midway is not ripping you off, even though it may seem that way when you only consider the cost of postage.

I love midway! If you have a C&R they give you dealer pricing. I place my orders on Monday and they arrive in Houston on Wed. Never a problem. Who cares about shipping charges when your sales tax is over 8%.

Sorry guys, but I'm a Midway fan. Except for their return policy, I find them hard to beat for service.

When I order something, I want it NOW, and they do a real good job of that.

I used to order all my reloading supplies over the winter from Midway, Sinclair and the like. It ran into quite a tidy sum, but now that your all knowing State Dept. has decided we need import/export permits to order reloading components I no longer bother with it. My last order from Sinclair took almost 3 months. That's asking a little too much. It's a shame really. I enjoyed dealing with the U.S. companies over the years, but I guess we're all potential terrorists now. Best wishes.

Absolutely right! They list stuff in their catalog that they don't have, then screw around and take their sweet time letting you know it's not available, while they use your money in the interim!

I like Midway. Thier prices aren't the best, Graf & Sons is generally cheaper, but like my learned friend Terry B says, their service is FAST! G&S is painfully slow. With Midaway, if I order on a Monday or a Tuesday, I have it by Friday. Graf's takes upwards of two weeks to ship. They do need to improve their return policy though. jorge

The order I'm referring to is $112 worth of mechandise and they're charging over $25 for shipping (nothing heavy, but does include $8.25 shipping charges for 3 1911 magazines that are backordered). That's approx $1 for every $4 of goods. Fair and honest my eye. You believe what you want, popenmann. Printing invoices and such is part of conducting business. Making profit off shipping charges and calling it "Fair and Honest shipping, you pay only the cost of actual shipping" is a lie!

It looks like they are not using the "Fair and Honest" slogan in their catalogs now as of late, but it still appears on the invoice. They'll need to edit that out, I'm sure.

For all those who continue to do business with them, keep an eye out for it.

I've used both Midway and Graf's

I've generally found Midway to be cheaper, faster, and with better customer service, except their return policy which I find rather unreasonable...

My main complaint with Graf's is that whenever I get an item that has to be backordered they have both charged me for the item, and then never sent it and never refunded my money. It just gets "lost" somewhere...

Agreed on Sportsman's guide, had a guy on the phone when I was making an order that was a real ass. Never order from them if I can help it.

I don't order from Midway very often, but yesterday they sent me an email telling me I could get special "birthday" pricing. Not sure how they got my birthday, guess I must have given it to them when I registered online. Anyway, I ended up ordering a few things yesterday because the "birthday" prices were considerably less than their regular prices. Normally I deal with Sinclair or Lock Stock.

I always look to Sportsmans Warehouse locally first for my reloading supplies, and cant wait for the new Cabellas to get here this fall. Nothing like strong competition to keep the local leader honest.

Ive been pretty happy with mail order stuff from cabellas, but I just recieved an order yesterday from Midway for a box full of gunsmithing items and they beat the pants off of Brownells pricing. Ill continue to look to them for that sort of thing.

Seems I've bought from them all, had problems with them all (except Midsouth), and had all my problems solved by them all. You look, you compare prices and then you buy. Pretty simple.

If you don't like somebody, don't do business with them. However, you have to expect that just about any system will have glitches and hiccups now and then. The real test is in how the customer service folks handle it and how quickly and easily the problem is corrected.

Sincerely,

On rare ocasion MidWay has a sale and I buy something, other than that they and Cabellas seem to consistently have the highest prices.
That aside when I want something I compare the following:
MidSouth, Graf and Sons (remember their prices include freight), Lock Stock and Barrel, Sinclair Int., Natchez, Wideners (they include freight on most orders over $100.00), and because I shoot a lot of small caliber wildcat stuff I buy a good amount from the "Woodchuck Den inc" in Baltic Ohio the owner Todd Kindler has developed a number of great small caliber wildcats and is a great guy to deal with!!
