IMR 7828 vs Re22

Similar burn rates?

Yep with 7828 listed as being a touch slower. I used both in a 7stw and could hardly tell the difference.

You got that right....very little difference.

I was just searching for loads with imr7828(single base powder) instead of useing r22(double base) for a 6.5x55 load. Dont hear much about imr7828 and never thought before of trying it. I like IMR powders

Both Re22 and IMR-7828 are very good powders and have very similar applications. As to which is "faster", it depends on which lot of Re22 you're working with (and to some extent, the size of the case and bore of the gun, as powder burning characteristics do vary with these factors). This powder has a reputation for very significant lot-to-lot variations. Some of them are demonstrably faster than 7828 and some of them seem to be nearly as slow as the Re-22 stablemate, Re-25.

IMR-7828, on the other hand, has a reputation for being very consistent lot-to-lot. This is not to say that one is a "good" powder and one is a "bad" powder, it is just to say that you can't fully depend on paper comparisons between their relative performances.

You'll have to adjust your load both to your gun and to the particular lot of powder you are using with either powder, but perhaps moreso with Re-22. When using either, I would suggest buying plenty of a single lot to last you for quite a spell. This will avoid having to re-work your load when buying a fresh lot of powder.

I am planning to use it just for that purpose too!

I've heard only great things in using both of these powders in the 25-06...I'll be giving Re22 the first-at-bat...

Hornady 117gr SBT gets the call...

Stonecreek hit the nail on the head. I shoot several pounds of each powder yearly. Both do extremely well for the magnum chamberings. I keep on hand at least 16 pounds of each at any one time. I am presently shooting the IMR-7828 SSC, it meters very nicely. For me both powders are magical in their performance. I shoot the one that is most accurate in the rifle I am working with. Good shooting.

For me, 7828 has been more accurate in th calibers I shoot it in; 260ai, 280 & 7mm Dakota. When I ahd a 7renmmag, it was that rifles fav as well for 150-160gr bullets.

Dear Late Bloomer:

In my 7x57 AI Douglas air-gauged barrel mounted on a 1908 Brazilian Mauser action, I found Re-22 to be a bit slower than IMR-7828. Although the IMR-7828 SSC which I experimented with also, seemed faster than Re-22.

Re-22 worked better with the 140-150 grain bullets, and IMR-7828 worked better (but maxed out the case) with the 160-175 grain bullets.

For this 7x57 AI case, I will probably use Re-22, because I don't have to compress it, whereas I had to compress the top loaded 160 and 175 grain loadings.

On the other hand, the extreme spread and standard deviation was noticeably better with the IMR-7828 loads.

On paper, I saw no difference in the group size.

Howzit Bradda Ro if da Re22 no work for you and you like try 7828 lemme know I get. I'll be trying Re17 in my 25-06 here shortly once I get the 6x47 Lapua loads squared away. I will let you know, from what ive seen and read its looking good.
