It seems all the reloading data I can find shows similar weights of bullet to be about 300'/sec slower in the 8mm-06 compared to the 338-06.....the diameters are different about .015 and that shouldn't account for this much difference one might think. Is there some other reason the 8mm-06 appears to be so underloaded?.....is the 338-06 really that much better? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I would say the actions. Some of the old actions in 8mm were coverted/rechambered and the data is made for them.

That would be my thought as well. Good hunting, Andy ----------------------------- Thomas Jefferson: “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

That's got to be the answer because if you look up data for the 8 x 60 (in particular the Bombe loadings) they are right up there with and in some cases exceed 338-06 data. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
