721 was already offered by idahoelk101 early on in the contest. If the guesses came down to it being between yours and his before I close the contest, he would get them...

And Not_, "blanketing" is not a sporting way to guess. If it was, there would be no contest. I want to make this equal for all. Making guesses in increments of five or ten is like sending a platoon of soldiers with automatic weapons out to hunt a deer in one of those fenced-in hunting preserves in Texas. The deer is going to lose-- just a matter of time. I would like to ask you to withdraw the blanket guesses and estimate based on what you think would be an intelligent guess. Here's how I would do it: Calculate the volume of a single case, divide 2,000 cc by that volume and then take an educated guess as to how many cases in the bottle are lost to interstitial volume. A .40 case is .12 cubic inches in volume. Two liters is 122 cubic inches. That makes the bottle hold 1016 cases if there was ZERO interstitial loss. If the loss was 10%, we'd have 914 cases in there. If it was 25%, we'd have 762 cases. That's how I'd do it...

We have 24 whole-integer estimates and one fractional. To be honest, his is not really in the running. I shall be charitable and remove the decimal portion of his guess. So we have 25 guesses. I have looked at them and I have to say, there are a few in there that are quite good.

I was accounting for the possibility that there was a case of case head separation by someone shooting a stout reload out of a glock pissers

I see I started this on March 31. I guess we can let it go a week, maybe a day or so longer. I was expecting a larger number of discrete entrants, but I guess .40 just ain't that popular. I'll cut it off on April 7, around mid-day PST. There are some good guesses here. We'll see the winner, whomever he is, in a few days...

The contest closed on April 7 at 1400 PDT, or April 8 at 0200 if we use the timestamp on the website. I was out until just now at 1630. The last three guesses are excluded.

I think this contest was pretty good. The two best guesses for OVER the number are by BECoole at 723 and youngoutdoors at 725. The TOTAL number of cases in both the bag and bottle is 727. youngoutdoors was closest on the over, but the contest is for what's in the bottle-- not the total in the picture. I know that's a tough break to miss it by just 2 cases over the total-total, but the first sentence of my original post says how many cases are in the two-liter bottle.

The best guesses for UNDER the number in the bottle are from Bob jr at 662 and txhunter77 at 632.

The number of cases IN THE BOTTLE is 696. The winner is Bob jr, with a guess of 662, made about 24 hours before closing. Congratulations, Bob. Send your preferred delivery address to me via PM me and we'll get the brass into a medium USPS flat-rate box for you and send them on. Shipping for the box is $10.95 plus 44 cents for my stamp on the self-returning envelope.

My thanks to all who participated. My next one is a bunch of .38Special: mixed headstamp, mixed brass and nickel-plated, ultrasonically cleaned (primer pockets clean) and resized with a Lee carbide die to 1/4-turn past contact with the shellholder. Just flare, prime and load. I have yet to prep these, so don't look for this one right away.

Again, the winner is Bob jr with a guess of 662 cases in the bottle.

Not trying to be critical here but I had a guess of 712 also. You said "closest guess" not closest without going over. Any way Bob jr was the closest without going over.

When is the next contest with maybe some .41 brass.

How would you like to just sell me that .38 brass outright?? I shoot .38 in competition and I'm in need of a bunch of it!

I don't have any .41 brass-- never even seen any, for that matter. Yes, Bob jr is the winner because he came closest to the number in the bottle. And that was the contest...

Nope, because I have no idea what it's worth. I've picked it up over the years, so it's cost me nothing. I can't sell something for money for which I did not pay. Giving them away for the cost of shipping the box to the closest guess makes it fair to everyone. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is...
