I use in my rifle (98 Mauser VZ24 action):

139 Hornady Interlock
52.5 - 55.0 H4350

Velocities, 2924 low, 3095 high, avg. 2997.

Safe in my rifle, no pressure signs. Use at your own risk.

Get Ackley's book.

You can add about 5% to a reloading book load for the standard 7x57, and it will be milder than milk soup, so just start working up one grain at a time..

There is no set max load, you must find it for your particular rifle, a much guarded statement by reloading manuals, they are scairt ta death of law suits...but I am a firm believer to know where max is with ever rifle I own. I may not load max for my shooting but I sure want to know where it is with any given load in any caliber...This may or may not be for everyone, I don't know so I speak only for myself.

Ray,

100% with you on this and exactly what I do with any rifle of my own. I've usually found maximum can be anywhere from 3-5 grains above published max loading data in whatever reloading manual I'm using. Then I back off a grain or two to where I feel comfortable with pressure, accuracy and lastly speed.

I've just gone through this procedure with my 6.5mm SAUM, but then as it is a wildcat it was absolutely necessary, though I'm still a firm believer to find maximum even with a factory cartridge and published max loads.

I think any serious reloader would do the same.

when I got my first 7x57 Ackley I was scared to death about loading data.
I knew my rifle would handle higher pressures than the 45-k the books all kept showing.
I basically started at the top of the normal data with a slower powder for the cartridge and kept going up.

I like the hornady interlock, and I know it's muzzle velocity for best performance tops out at about 2900 fps so I started heading that direction.
I hit right about 2880 and an accuracy node using RL-19 and the rem 9-1/2 primer in Remington brass.
that's been the only load I have needed since.
it's been stellar on deer works on elk and has taken a moose as well as some coyotes and a few grouse.
I can run the velocity up higher and shoot other bullets faster.
I just don't see any reason to bother, I have all the accuracy I need and the bullet does it's job when it gets there.

Mr. Brown, eabco.com has tried to stock the Ackley set of books as available. Mr. A liked this one and much data. Rivalled the .270 before WW II with powders then available. Imp just made it better. Luck. Happy Trails.
