Just wondering why the 10.75x68 with a 400gn bullet is maxed out at 2200 or so fps, but the .416 Taylor with basically the same powder capacity can get 2300-2350 fairly comfortably & some push it up to 2400 fps. Especially if the 10.75x68 is seated out to 3.40 capacity is even a little more than the .416 Taylor. I was woundering what the limiting factor in the 10.75x68 was. Is there a reason it can't be ran at higher pressures than CIP specs, more in line with the Taylor? Both built on a 98 Mauser using current barrels, brass ect? From my limited ( to say the least!) knowledge, I would think the 10.75x68 could do 2300-2350 like the .416 Taylor so set up. I mean yes it will exceed CIP specs. But there must be something I'm now understanding correctly. say if the 10.75x68 cartridge didn't exist but the case does, I 'wildcat' the case with a 3.40 COL & 400gn bullet. Would I not run it up to 2350 fps based on case capacity, at pressures within normal the range of contemperary cartridges? Cheers, Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Allen, All things equal same net capacity same barrel same bullet dia yes velocity should be the same. Take a 416 Taylor run it in QL with a 400gr but limited to the 10.75x68 pressure of 47,800 and velocity limits drop to 4200fps. Bullet dia can have some affect easier to get pressure in a 416 vs 423 with the same bullet weight. Different pressure curves can impact velocity potential. I show the 68 to normally have a shorter OAL so seating out to 3.34 might require throat work. Would the brass or historical action take the pressure I have no clue. I'd not bet my life on it. Short answer is in theory you could load the 68 to equal a Taylor with a larger string of buts. To me leave the old loaded the way they were intented. If you want 2400fps with a 400gr simply go to a newer option. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

when i EVER get my 10,75x68 back.. which is throated and setup for crimping on the groove of a hornady DGX 400gr bullet, I will let you know ... i wanted mine setup for a longish throat and OAL opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Lol Jeffesso! Ok please hurry up & get it done please! Paul, I was thinking going to a longer COL same as if one long throated a 7x57. Using a M98 action to build either a 416 Taylor or 10.75x68. Use a LW barrel in .423 and Hornaber brass. I would 'think' it would be the same. But what do I know?! lol Intersting. Cheers, Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Allen, Just a little more info. The 68 has a 3gr higher gross capacity but due to its shape even at the same OAL the 68s net capacity will be about 3 grs less than the Taylor. So a little less net, bigger dia bullet loaded to Taylor pressures QL calculates the 68 to be about 50-75fps slower. All that said as long as the brass can handle the pressure then I think you should build what you want. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
