Bullets for 375 Win. velocities?

Anyone have any bullet recommendations other than the 200 gr. Sierra? I’m loading for a T/C Contender in 375 JDJ and while the Sierra has worked I’m looking for a heavier bullet, one that’s not designed for 375 H&H velocities.

I’ve looked at the Barnes bullet but JD Jones cautions against copper tubing bullets because of pressure concerns with the relative weak Contender.

Speer #12 lists 375 Winchester (handgun load) with the 235-grain bullet.

They also show a picture (page 532) of a bull elk taken with a 375 JDJ (270 grain boattail). In #12 they provide no data for the JDJ that I could find.

I shoot both these bullets in reduced loads for a 375 Ruger. Accurate and deadly on paper plates.

maybe consider lead?
Lyman makes a good gas checked bullet that the 375's seem to dote on even at full jacketed speeds.

With no tube magazine to worry about, any lighter, pointed bullet should be OK in moderate handloads. There has been a hollowpoint 210gr copper bullet made by the Australian firm called Atomic29, which is supposed to kill deer-sized game well, but it was quite expensive - even before the tariffs.

Those bullets have such a big hollow, plus 'driving bands', that I would be surprised if they gave undue pressure problems.

I believe Ken Waters loaded some 235gr. Speers in his Savage M99 in his Pet Loads book.

RCBS use to make a 200 some grain bullet mold for the 375 too.

Cutting Edge Bullets.

175 gr Maximus 2500 fps
230 gr Raptor 2000 fps. Might need faster twist with this one. CEB website has the specs.

I have a 14” Encore in which I use mostly 235 grain bullets, any brand for paper and pigs, Barnes TSX for deer and larger. Used it in SA on Nyala, warthog, impala and kudu (x2). Worked really well.
Also tried 260 grain Nosler’s, but velocity wasn’t as high as anticipated.

Northern Precision may be another option.

Hawk Bullets has options for you with different jacket thickness that can be selected for the intended velocities. I had success with them years ago in a .358 JDJ contender.

I agree with KevinNY for Hawk bullets.

If you want to try something completely different, have a look at Lehigh Defense bullets. Minimum claimed impact speed is 1200 fps. 185gr one needs 1:15" twist, heavier 270gr 1:12" twist.

There is also 270 gr copper solid flat nosed.

There are also load data for .375 JDJ with 185gr and brass 250gr bullets (now discontinued)

I didn't use those particular bullets, but I used a lot of in .460 Rowland and .500 S&W. Well made bullets, but a lot of types I love is now discontinued (I still have hundreds on stock). All brass bullets are gone. I think because "they can be loaded in handgun and considered AP". Jesus fuc***g Christ.

I would echo the CEB 230 gr Raptor.

Michael McCourry did work to show these bullies caused less barrel strain than cup and core bullets.
