Here is a recent painting called "Dusk on Matjulu"

It is 24X32 acrylic on hardboard.

In the Southwest corner of Kruger National Park there is a place called Matjulu with a granite mountain and beautiful scenery in the surrounding hills. I did a three day wilderness trails walk not too far from this area in 2000 and saw many white rhino. I was very impressed to see the white rhino climbing up the rocky slopes with ease. I had always pictured these animals shading under a tree or slowly walking along flat terrain. They can really move & climb when they want to..

Grafton,

Unbelievably beautiful! You are so incredibly talented! I am in awe admiring this latest creation. The journey that inspired the painting sounded like a fine adventure. Did you journal the trip? Thank you so much for sharing yet another great piece of your art.

Kindest regards,
Mary

Thanks Mary.

I do not really have much in the way of a journal but it was special in that it was my first trip to Africa and it changed my life. I had always wanted to go but actually being there sent me on a new path. I thought my experience was unique but it seems that many people are affected this way.

The wilderness trails walks in Kruger are great. It can be a little uncomfortable at times being close to BIG game without a rifle in your hands. However, it is much better than viewing from a car.

Thanks for the comments.

Yukon, I do have some photos from that trip but they are all on film. One day I will try and scan them and post a few.

Getting good wildlife photos on foot is tough. Also it is not always the best idea to be clicking away with flash etc.. when you are very close to elephant etc..
I have a few photos of the camp, people and scenery. All my good wildlife photos from Kruger are from the car. Looking back, it was my first trip to Africa and I wish I had a digital camera back then and had taken more photos and video.

Here is another one I just started on called "Do not Disturb" 18" x 24" acrylic on canvas panel

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
