Daytime Bushpig

I hope that the photo made it.
Bushpig are seldom seen during the day and kind of a bucket list way of hunting them as opposed to using dogs or over bait at night.
A week or two ago I had a memorable hunt. In the morning I shot an old kudu bull on a friend's ranch and was then strolling along the cliff side of a semi-dry watercourse looking for warthog when I noted this bushpig.
A scramble to get to the lip of river, but he had disappeared. I waited for ten minutes and was about to give up when I spied him ambling along directly below me, headed upstream.
A brisk walk of a hundred yards or so to get ahead of him, still 30 foot higher, I waited in an ambush spot, having caught two more glimpses of him.
He duly walked in the gap between two shrubs just forty yards away and the 180 grain bullet from my 300 WSM took him neatly behind the shoulder.
The pleasing aspects of the hunt were that he was an old boar (note light colouring), a bit shrunken by age, and in the twenty or so minutes of the hunt never knew that any danger was about.
These types of hunts come along very seldom.
The farm hands enjoyed the meat, tough as he was!
PS. I am unsure on how to enlarge the picture.

That's a dandy, fine coloration and size too.

Looks like a short body and overly long nose.
Almost as long as the body.

Congrats on a good stalk. Always pleasing
when plans work out.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Nice bushpig and a good story. I should think daytime bushpig stalking stories are exceedingly rare! Here's a larger version of the photo:

Karoo: I think what you did wrong was to choose "Thumbnail for forums" rather than "Hotlink for forums"

Thanks Hannay
It appears much easier than the older photobucket system.

Karoo,
I love those hunts where lady luck unexpectedly spoils you. A great Pig indeed. Congrats.
What was the 180 gn bullet you shot him with ?
The pic you posted expands when clicked on but otherwise Hannay shows you how to post in a larger size. I love using Postimage for pics here. A very simple system for computer dummies like me.

30-06. Yes, I will use Postimage from now onwards.
I used the Federal Fusion bullet.
See the thread I resurrected on the Medium Bore forum on these bullets http://forums.accuratereloadin.../3221043/m/333108407
While bushpig are tough animals, this bullet was not necessary for this shot. Nor the 300 WSM as velocity was not needed.
Still, I was not sure of a perfect shot opportunity and I was happy to have a slightly bigger calibre than say, a 6mm cartridge.

Nice pig. I've only hunted one place where they aren't almost totally nocturnal. Great hunt.

I think he is a handsome trophy. Well done!
