Big Fish on Light Tackle!

StonecreekBig Fish on Light Tackle!
These two hogs were taken last week in western Edwards Plateau of Texas by the grandsons of a friend of mine. The boys are about 8 and 11, but I've cropped out their faces since I don't have permission to put their photos on the web.
The hog in the first photo was taken by the older boy with one shot from a 22 Magnum. he ran about 100 yards before keeling over. The next day they weighed him at 185 pounds after "drying out" a bit.
The second hog was taken by the younger boy with a .22 LR, a single shot between the eyes and dropped on the spot. This one weighed 248.5 pounds. The 8 year-old described his hunt as "kinda scary". No doubt!
These are pretty good size fish to be successfully landed on such light tackle!

customboltExcellent! Nice choppers.
You know that if they would have been shot with a .375 H&H, they'd be really really really dead.
Great story.

hogfarmerGood hogs, nice shooting by the youngsters. Always good to see dead hogs.

Bobby TomekWow! Both of those hogs are bruisers...and nice shooting by the kids.
I really like your thread title, by the way.
How close was the younger one with the .22 LR? I bet that adventure was quite the rush for him.

SGraves155Taking kids hunting is a great joy. Getting some trophies like these is like ice cream on your cake!
Some of my grand children are just now getting to the early teen years, and a pig hunt should be in their near future.
Both those hogs look well over 200.

LHeym500Awesome, I used a 375 on mine. Those boys sure can shoot. Thank you for letting them hunt your place.

georgeldAnyone that claims a .22 isn't a killer has
never used one much. I even killed a 5pt bull elk with mine once, as a kid too.
Good to see and hear those boys are already at it. Damned good shooting by both.
Thanks for sharing with us.

RHOutfittersWow! Very nice pigs! I am sure both boys caught the hunting fever already. Do you know the bullet placement for the first pig too?

Bill/OregonShot placement had to have been critical for that hog taken with the .22. Anyone who has ever watched a guy farm-kill beeves with a .22 knows they are plenty if you know where to put that little slug.
