Bushpig in the cane!
.

Started off sitting on a maize bait at 5 pm. Young sow came in from the side, shot her at 7 m and she bolted into the sugar cane. Great blood trail from 30.06 and after 40 m a finishing shot at 2 m. Estimated 2 years old and weighed 37 kgs

Excellent trophy! Looks like quite the adventure! What bullet did you use out of the .30/06?

Bugel - was a borrowed 1930s BSA in 30.06. Not sure what softs were / weight.

Was a weekend away from Joburg down in the Natal Midlands. Will be back there for a week in February when the pigs are on the mealies. Hounds and night stalks!

Fine harvest. I'd love to hunt bush pig -- and warties again.

Fantastic! Bush pig is high on my list! Definitely going to try for one my next trip to the Continent.

I hunted the Natal a few years ago and we went out at night in the cane fields for bushpig. Some monsters were seen, but unfortunately we had some very expensive Brahman cattle in the same area and the PH wouldn't let me shoot. He said that just one of those bulls was at least $30K USD. Big Grin

Charlie,
Nice pig! Must have been fun finding it in that tall cane!

+1 on hunting with hounds! Love it.
The hounds had run this boar into a small creek and under a downed tree where he was fighting them off and getting in a few good licks. My "stalk" was walking to the bank, leaning over the action and shooting the beastie from less than 3 feet. FUN! BTW, it is rarely so easy!

Nice cutters too! He cut two dogs that day.

Bill 73,
This is something we could do when you are in town for the DSC show in January. Smiler

Bill, Nice pig!! And a big set of teeth !!

Hounds and night stalks - hounds by day in the maize and cane and stalking at night with a thermal imager and night vision. Very best of both worlds!!
