Trap Works
The bunch I posted on Live Oak's thread turned up in my trap---21 in the trap plus one outside that ran off.

At $5 per tail bounty from our county, that will buy lots of corn for my feeders. I have 31 presently to turn in and will continue to collect until the bag is full.

And, as you can see in the first pic, the chain link fence "lining" keeps the smaller ones inside.

WOW!

Knew you'd figure out how to kill 'em all.

Lotta good pork gone to waste is the only
part I'd like to see changed. Proper eating
size. Again: wish it wasn't so far down there.

What did you shoot 'em with? 12ga & buck?

Hell of a killer there Dusty.

George-used my Nylon 66, and had to reload too.

I would be most happy to have anyone come and have them, but it is nearly impossible to find folks who are willing to do a little work these days.

Any pictures of the door?

How long can you use the trap before they get wise to it?

Larry--here's a pic of the gate-it is a 3-part top-hinged gate.

I have two of the 3 doors bolted together to give the hogs a wider entry than just a single door.

That's what I said:
Too long a drive down there.
700 miles from here. By the time
I got there they'd be spoiled.

.22's cheaper than 12ga. Even though
it took half a box. Bet by he time you
were done they'd made 100 laps around that pen.

Nice harvest for sure. By the time they'd
all reproduced you'd of had a couple hundred
at least. Still don't make much a dent in
that 2 million hogs in Texas they claim.

Thanks for sharing, glad you're having fun too.

And, after this mass trapping last Sunday night, I already have 5 more visiting the trap. I will set it tomorrow--

Didn't get back to set it for 2 days and when I drove up, the ground under the feeder is gold. No pigs or deer have been in the trap. So, I didn't set it. I'll just keep checking until they decide to come back, as they are still coming to my bow stand about 200 yds away.

Good haul there clap

What is your trigger mechanism? Is there a line that runs to the old tyre?, or?

GBE--there is a rope stretched across the trap behind the feeder legs, stretched tight about 6" above the ground. Then there is a rope tied to the cross-rope that runs to the gates and is attached to the L-shaped piece of wire which hangs from the wire stretched between the two t-posts close to the gates. I use the tire to hold a bunch of corn and when they start rooting it around they hit the rope which pulls the L-wire off the gates and they drop.

And, now the pile of corn under the feeder has disappeared down the gullets of 6 hogs. Sunday will be trap setting time!

damn. i live at the far east edge of guadalupe county (martindale). we set our trpap the other day, poured corn on the ground, and immediately was surrounded by cows with calves. had to trip the gate to keep the calves out. gonna send you a PM.

John--I wire a piece of panel across the entry to restrict calf access---put it about 15-18" above the ground and works well for me to keep the calves out. I do it on my cage-style traps too. You can see it in the pics above.

John---Good to meet you today. Glad for them to go to someone's table for a change rather than the buzzard buffet.

It will likely be a week or 10 days before I see any more traffic--but when I set the trap again I'll let you know.

Bill--I will gut and haul whenever I have a taker for my trap output---but amazing how many folks aren't willing to meet me at the corner gas station these days. I'm sure if I broke it down and packaged it, or ran it through the sausage grinder and smoker I'd have a bunch more takers, but if you want it, at least be willing to do some work on your part. OK--off my soap box.

Same here.

I have a good grinder and all the
processing equipment and experience.

Only problem is it's 700 miles down there.

I have made plans of hauling a small freezer,
generator in the p/up and drag the camp trailer.
To make such a trip. Jack was going to fly out
and we'd planned on it. Then I got sick in '12
instead.

Had a place lined up and invited near San Antone.
Then the guy Moe Fried had a knee replaced, got infection for six months and died
from it. My age. Hell of a deal.

First--congrats Bobby--keeping up our traditions of slaying hogs.

George--only have hogs at one of my 2 open locations now. The third one is "closed" for deer season. Trapped that bunch above plus two more, and there is a bunch (9-10) coming to my deer stand but only infrequently to the trap, which is about 100-150 yds away. Tomorrow I'm gonna lay a golden highway to the trap and throw a bunch of corn in the trap to see if I can encourage them to go there instead of my deer stand. Most likely they'll end up going to all the places, but if they visit the trap, I can live with the others---

George-

It's just a matter of language usage. The "killed" part is simply understood.

It's no different than saying "I got a nice turkey at the grocery store." You didn't specify that you bought and paid for it, but it is understood as that is simply part of the process.

Big Grin Big Grin

Hogs were here last night but got a free pass. I was hurting and sat outside for a while, smelled them and then saw them under the light of the feeder. Everyone else was asleep. But with the RA and neuropathy hitting me hard and just getting over the effects of a migraine, I sat there and let them be. Maybe they'll be back soon.
