Just wondering whether anyone on this forum has used this scope. I gather that it is a generation or two older than the current Leica scopes. Although truth be told I hardly need another scope, I’m always on the lookout for an upgrade in equipment. A number of years ago, I had a pair of Leica (then labeled Leitz) Trinovid compact binoculars and found the optical clarity exceptional. I’m wondering whether this Leica 2.5-10x42 scope is similarly topnotch optically. How does it stack up technically with the top European scopes? There is one of these currently up for sale at what I think is a very good price. Does anyone here have experience with this scope?

Just seen this post. I have one of these - albeit the illuminated version on my 275 Rigby. A really nice scope on a par with my Schmidt & Benders and Swarovski. Only thing I don’t like is the third turret that controls the illumination. I never use the red dot in the middle of the cross hair, and third turret makes a bit bulky in the gun cabinet.

Found a used Leica 2.5-10x42 scope at a good price. I know their binoculars are excellent, but how does this older scope compare to modern optics? Mainly for daylight hunting. Any specific issues to check before buying? The Bertrand Russell quote sums up my hesitation - don't want to overpay for nostalgia if the performance doesn't hold up.

How old are these scopes? I take it they are image-movement; if so, perhaps subsequent generations might be more stable in their hingeing of the erector tube, if nothing else.

If by any chance it is old-school and the reticle moves out of centre, however, it might actually be worth having.

I have three ER’s…they are really superb optics. Easily on par with Swaro and Zeiss (who have decided to get out of the market).

The biggest difference is going to be around the coatings. I find the Leica to be a bit more “contrasty” than Swaro coatings…the Swaro being a tad brighter but less contrasty. It really depends on your eyes.

I have a 2.5-10 and 3-15 ER and both are spot on perfect for what I want.

Regards,

Robert
