Just bought my first safari so I can answer. 16 years as an infantry Marine with few skills. Missing, broken, and defective parts forced a change to dog training-own my business and train bird dogs and police canines. Guided birds, hogs, turkey in S. Fl for 6 seasons. Currently business is on hold and I am approaching my 9th month, of who knows how many, as a civilian counterinsurgency advisor in Iraq. Good thing is that because of some prudent moves and a great deal of unexpected luck, debts are gone, kids college is paid, and I can afford to go hunting some more. 42d b-day rapidly approaching. 10 days in SA next summer. Never do something once you're not willing to do the rest of your life. Always hold the door for the other guy. My African friends understand the world in a way I can only dream of.

Full time food and wine magazine editor for the past 2 years. Partime booking agent(hunt/photo safari) partime firearms instructor and coach (olympic shotgun/sporting clays/practical pistol /shotgun). Africa has become a real addiction.2 trips this year 2 trips last year and 4 the year before. I second the idea of having our own country, it be fun! hahaha "one of the most common african animals is the common coolerbok(or coleman's coolerbok). Many have been domesticated and can be found in hunting camps, lodges and in the back of vehicles."

Retired after 35 years as a government attorney, 30 of them as an administrative law judge. Retired after 28 years in the active Army and USAR as a LTC in MP’s. I am amazed at the amount of preventive maintenance a sixty-five year old body requires! Between the gym, walking and going to doctor’s appointments (and I’m not sick), I barely have enough time for trips, planning trips, shooting, editing videos, and remodeling my trophy room. I have no idea how I did it when I was working full time. Please note: I have no interest in engaging in any military activities and even less interest in practicing law, giving legal advise, or mediating disputes. I plan to travel, hunt, eat well, drink good wine and spirits (in moderation) and enjoy life generally with my wife of 29 years until the Lord is finished with this phase of my education. I have a business based on fuel- efficient natural gas engines. Mostly for farm irrigation but hoping to break into single- stage natural gas compression. Just took my wife on her first trip to Africa this summer. She is an elementary school teacher. I am amazed by the diversity of this group. I look forward to meeting several of you in Dallas at the convention.

After 25 years in the sales and marketing field I gave up and let the rats win. I opened a safari and and tour guide business which keeps me busy during the season. I get a kick out of showing folks "my africa" and also seeing the look on the face of a hunter downing something he or she has long dreamt about. I am also a partner in a firearms training academy and the training portfolio chairman of a large amateur hunting association. I don't get too much time in for personal hunting anymore, what with paying for private school for my son and supporting his growing hunting and shooting habit. (At least I get to go with him) since he is my best buddy. The wife is a senior graphics designer for one of the largest gaming software designers in the world so she fills in the fiscal gaps. Living the Sportsmans dream. Own and run the family gunshop for the last 25 years. Eleven employees, four of which are top-notch gunsmiths who work on my gun projects whenever they can squeeze time in. I get to play with almost every type of gun imaginable but can keep only a relative few for myself. Shooting time at the range is considered a basic need and components are always handy- I’m my best customer. I’ll never get rich doing this but with correct priorities (my wife thinks it’s more like “twistedâ€), I can make the occasional African trip.

Gee, I'm pretty darn plain compared to you guys! I joined the Army at 17 (served in 7th ID(L) & the 82nd), got out 10 years later, managed a gunshop / shooting range while going to college (wanted to go into law enforcement but my body isn't the same as it ever was) and then got a job with the local sheriff's office as a 911 dispatcher. I have since moved on to the same job working for Uncle Sugar on Quantico Marine Base. I have moonlighted as a concealed carry instructor in NC but haven't messed with it here in VA.

Retired one-eyed wanderer and world traveler. Retired from the left seat of the 747-200, (boring flying), and flew the civilian version of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules for eight years. (Some very exciting flying). Worked widely in Africa in disturbed areas, flew the rest of the world, hit 110 countries and all 7 continents. Also have extensive experience in light singles and twins and some helicopter time. Am also rated in DC-3's and PBY Catalinas. Flew a lot of round engined stuff. That's why I can't hear. Well, that and shooting all my life. Lost my physical due to hearing problems. Can't fly with one eye and bad ears, all at the same time. Am bored when not shooting, hunting, or reloading. Am about to enter a venture that I hope will increase the cash flow so I can book with Wendell again and go back to Tanzania and get another Buff and that elusive 27" impala.

Never been to Africa but I dream.... Just had a complete career change last year after 14 years in Electronics Procurement. Now an insurance claims investigator / negotiator. Work from home, no commuting. Also farm a little and I'm building up a property portifolio which should help fund future trips to Africa. Maybe in 2008. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....
