I am the chief investigator for the Sheriff's Department in the county where I live in Southeast Georgia. I also command the Bloodhound Tracking and Recovery team. I have been in law enforcement for 22 years, but would much rather be in Africa somewhere. I hope to retire in two months and do just that.

Chemical engineer with a large refiner. Thirty four years in process design and business development. Currently manage licensing and intellectual property. In the past have had part time businesses in farming (raising Belted Galloway cattle) and outdoor photography. Currently getting ready to retire, and may be forced into becoming a land developer in order to cash in real estate inheritance for my wife. Going to retire now, since two daughters from late in life are getting ready to exit college. One to pharmacy or medicine, the other to BioTech, after two years interning with FBI in Quantico.

I work for the US Gov't under the new moniker of Dept. of Homeland Security. And within that dept., I work in the CBP end of it... hence the reason I left Texas for Tucson,AZ.. Not by choice!! But hey, I get to hunt people for a living now!! And there's PLENTY of fun in that!!!

Was a guide and taxidermist for about 6 years. Got to work in South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada as well. Still do taxidermy as a side hobby and to compete in competitions, but miss both of them as a profession very much.
If I could make the money I do now and get to do taxidermy full time, I'd drop the Gov't gig in a heartbeat and beeline it back to Texas!

I'm with you in wishing I could get back to TX -- grew up in the Hill Country, now in SC in the ice cream manufacturing business -- we do custom, top-end products -- not many people willing to pay for it, and distributions a nightmare -- but I don't have to compromise on quality, and I like the work.

I spent close to 30 years as the outdoor editor and editorial board member of a large daily newspaper. Eighteen of those years I also was SCI's director of publications responsible for all phases of publishing Safari Magazine, Safari Times and the SCI record books. I sold also magazine articles and self-published maps for regional recreation sites. Since retiring in 1999, I've written nine books for/about Weatherby Award winners and one book about the history of SCI. Two more are in the works.

Hey, why don't we all start our own AR country? We got folks to take care of all of our needs. Shoot, we could have one of the best militaries in the world, world-class healthcare and medical services, our own travel and booking agencies, utilities, farming, ranching, wine growing/making, master-planned communities, law enforcement and investigation, communications and mass media (our own biased views of the world), diplomatic relations, vet services, taxidermy services, customs brokers, government officials, a school system with teachers, professors, and educational administration, entertainment (that's all of you), legal services and even maybe a court system if we worked on it, a school of bad girls. . . . (interesting) For me? I practice the devil's craft like a few others on here. I'm a lawyer. SAEED, can you help us with securing a country of our OWN?

I am a retired wildlife biologist that started as a conservation officer, then wildlife biologist, wildlife manager and finished as a wildlife research biologist. In that capacity I supervised research projects on the basic ecology of California bighorn sheep, developed a sightability model to estimate bighorn populations from aerial survey data, Canada goose researach and pheasant research. I then worked for a non-profit wildlife group for 5 years as a biologist. Now I am a professional elephant hunter that is fast going broke since I haven't figured out that you can't make any money by shooting non-exportable bulls and tuskless cows.

He also was a contributing editor for ARIZONA HUNTER & ANGLER magazine for 10 years, and spent nearly 7 years as a state Editor for OUTDOOR LIFE magazine. Mandile recently finished his first book project -- HOW TO HUNT COUES DEER -- with noted guide Duwane Adams. He's now working on book #2.

You might say I am in the trucking business in a way in that I run a division that makes components for all Major OE's for Class 8 and Medium trucks. Also, am the executive for our Mexico operations so I spend a lot of time there. Partners have a 50,000 acre ranch so there are certainly good fringes to that. Any of you guys in trucking as to fleets or dealerships, contact me.

I have just finished reading through the entire 5 pages of this thread and it has been fascinating to read that I was in such good company of fellow hunters for my one and only trip to Africa! Smiler I wish that somebody could get all your posts together and have it shown to the world (influenced by mass media in the US) that we are not all knuckledragging cretins because we hunt.

I was much relieved to find such fellow hunting addicts among lawyer types like BALLBUSTER, PG, mufasa and PWN375. ( Retired insurance company trial lawyer here - architect/engineer malpractice defense attorney in the last 25 years or so of a 45 year career in tort defense trial work) My PH got sadistic pleasure out of telling me all the lawyer jokes from the UK - some of them new, I admit - but I still wondered why I came 8000 miles to hear lawyer jokes! Smiler
