For those that might be interested, I recently had Dick Murray make me a rifle case, cartridge belt and knife case out of one of my buffalo hides from Tanzania. They arrived today and all I can say is that they are outstanding. He did a marvelous job. Compared to some of the other leather goods you see made from African game hides, there is simply no comparison. Exceeded my expectations in every way.

Dick charges the same price to make something from your hide that he charges for the same item he makes with bridle leather. He does good work and is a nice man too.

Great idea Mike, how much of the hide did you have shipped back? Do you get it tanned first, then ship to Dick? Any picts?

Pictures posted below.

I had one entire buffalo hide tanned. The tanning was done here by Brush Country Taxidermy's tannery that they use. I shipped Dick the hide and he shipped me the finished goods plus all the remaining hide (I have enough hide to make at least another gun case or so).

I would definitely like to see the pictures. SmilerBrad Rolston is in the process of making me some belts, ammo belts and other items from some of my African hides. Hopefully they will ship with my next trophy shipment this year.

Mike,

The stuff looks great.

About how much time from shipping the hide to receiving the finished goods???

Thanks,
Kyler

Mike that is great - what a bonus trophy from your hunt!

Can you give me an idea of cost of making that gun case? (post tanning I mean)

Thanks
MG

Delivery time was around two months, maybe six weeks as I recall.

The prices are the same prices he charges for the comparable item on his website made with leather. So in other words, the guncase purchased off the website with his leather is $475 (or was). He charges the same price to make the case using your hide. Same deal for the cartridge belt and knife case.

I have a couple Dick Murray items, a briefcase and a shell holder.

These are quality items. I will buy from him again. He has a booth in Dallas at DSC if anyone is interested. You can stop and see his work.

Very nice, Mike, very nice. I have some of Dick's leatherwork and it is all top-notch and should last two lifetimes!
