Thanks, Grant. I’ll be watching that one. John Buhmiller was a big bore pioneer and a great barrel maker besides. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

He was indeed. How famous was he within the USA, among the hunting / shooting fraternity ? Will his reputation attract high interest in his auctioned rifle ? Outside the USA I think few only would recognise the name. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Uncle John, as he was sometimes known, was a bit before my time. But I know that his barrels were revered for their precision and were always in great demand. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

The anticipated hammer price was US$6-9,000. The price realized, including the buyer's premium (which ranges from 17.5-18.5% of the hammer price), was US$12,975. Not bad for an old .458 (pre-Lott) Lott. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Michael, Appreciate the update, thankyou. The rifle seems to have sold well. At least I think the result would please me were I the vendor. I'm sure the buyer recognises the legacy acquired. Wonder if the rifle might see Africa again ... ? Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Thank you, sir. If I had bought it, I’d have found a way to hunt with it again. I shoot and ideally hunt with all my long guns. But then again, that generally keeps me away from collector’s items like this one. Hope it and its accoutrements went to a good home. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
