He was indeed.
How famous was he within the USA, among the hunting / shooting fraternity ?
Will his reputation attract high interest in his auctioned rifle ?
Outside the USA I think few only would recognise the name.

Uncle John, as he was sometimes known, was a bit before my time.

But I know that his barrels were revered for their precision and were always in great demand.
