May only get one more chance to hunt Africa again..Where in Namibia...[outfittter/PH/property] would you go to hunt for a decent chance at a 40"+ Gemsbok?

My son and I just love hunting these guys and we already have 3 and one is a 40-incher and the other good representatives for sure...super hunts!

Looking for another chance on a great property Big Grin

40" cow is no problem in a lot of areas, 40" bull gets tougher. For free range, our outfitter in Namibia (Westfalen) has about as many gemsbok as you could find anywhere else and if you hunt hard enough a 40"er isn't out of the question.

Let me know if you need any info.

It has been a while, but I shot a 42.5 in. in the same area, maybe 2003 or so.

My choice would be Sebra Hunting Safaris, near Kamanjab, Namibia. I got a 40" male and a 41" female there in 2012.

Here's a picture of the cow:

I would recommend my friends with Omujeve Safaris, and one of their concessions like Omatendeka or Dora !Nawas. You need a lot of gemsbok to choose from and plenty of age to get to that length.

The best I have seen from them was my partner's 43.5" bull.

I love Gemsbok and have shot some nice ones with Mike Kibble of Progress Safaris. Two bulls went 40" and 41" and two cows; one went 41 and the other went 43.

He has good gemsbok on his own ranch and excellent concessions in the Kalahari and Kamanjab area.

I had great success with Trophy Trackings with Danie Jensen VanVurren near Outjo.
I spent some time traveling around the northern half of Namibia while I was there and was really fascinated with Gemsbok. It seemed that body size and horn size in the Kamanjab/Outjo area and south toward Windhoek was the biggest. Further North, body size seemed to be a bit smaller the further north and west you went.
It's just something I observed and recorded in my notes.

Kanana

I shot a 40 plus inch male and a 42 plus inch female. Also shot some cool broken horn ones as part of a cull.

My male was the largest one the ph - jason bridger had ever shot. I expect that record to be very short lived.

I can reccomend highly Christi Liebenberg owner/PH of Hatari Safaris. My wife shot one over 40" & saw quite a few that size & larger. He is honest , hard-working, and affable.

If you hunt with Jan du Plessis of Sebra Hunting Safaris. you'll get a chance to hunt on Danie's ranch. They're neighbors along Route 35 south of Kamanjab. I shot a jackel, black wildebeest and a big springbok off of Danie's ranch last year while hunting with Jan. Here's my report:

Would not hurt to take a look at www.kalaharihuntingsafaris.net i've been with them 3 times and headed back next month. They are located near Aroab in the south. And cracking 40" with a cow is no problem here. I've got a couple 39 inchers but not a 40" yet but have seen several taken while hunting with them. Great operation and can't hardly beat the price.

They were done by Reiser Taxidermy in Namibia.

Another vote for Omujeve. I shot 2 nice bulls and my son a 34" "cull". My wife even got in on the action. I saw quite a bit more on my trip that were even bigger. I edited together a little footage from a few of our days sneaking up on Gemsbok.

Kalahari huntingsafaries I can recommend, the farm is pretty remote towards the SA border, they have lots of gemsbok, I hunted with them this easter..

You might also go hunting kudu in the Karas mountains....breathtaking scenery, fair and square afrikaners..
