Just my observations in the Eastern Cape thread: I think we can agree to disagree. I see merit in both sides, but personally I would tell anyone to visit/hunt the Eastern Cape, especially for their first trip to Africa. Why? 1. No shots or Malaria (although it's wise to use preventative measures such as insect spray/wipes, B-1, Permanone etc., especially in warmer months). 2. The terrain, fauna and flora is greatly varied. 3. Ranch hunting IS a kin to hunting here in the western US (Texas): normally good food, warm beds, bath/showers each night, daily laundry, etc. 4. Available species are numerous: some indigenous, some transplanted from within other African countries (Aoudad from Chad) some are exotic (Fallow Deer, Tahr) and of course the "color phase" game (white, black & copper Springbok; white Blesbok) with more coming I'm sure. 5. It's a great way to "ease" into the African experience. 6. I've met a number of RSA PH's and I would hunt anywhere with them. They were excellent in all fields (just my own experiences, can't speak for all). That's just me; my opinion. I loved RSA, the East Cape and I found most game to be very wary and difficult to stalk. I experienced hunting not shooting. Most shots were over 200 yards and if I had taken my bow, I'd have been unsuccessful in most stalks as the game I hunted cut us no slack. I'll not disagree with Russ as I understand what he is saying. First, it's his opinion, and secondly, I tend to learn more when I listen than talk. So I fathom what he's saying. I value others opinions as well, and I for one can say I had a fantastic time in the Eastern Cape and am going back twice this year. I leave in a few days for Zim and I'm sure I'll enjoy every minute. Africa will never be understood or enjoyed by those who fail to go there. It's possible some may go 10 times and never "get it." But hell's bells it blew me away! Good hunting, D.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
