My wife and I have decided that next year will be our time to return to Africa for a Cape Buff and some plains game hunting. Several years ago at the SCI convention she bought a CZ550 in .375 H&H that was enhanced and engraved. I also have a cz550 in .375 and both have Trijicon 1.5 to 6 scopes with quick detach rings. So, I am wondering what brand, bullet weight factory ammo you PH's would recommend. I have been reloading 270 gr's for practice but need to get serious with an appropriate bullet. I had been thinking of using Hornady DGS and DGX bullets in the 300 gr range. Haven't decided where to go for Buff as yet. Thanks in advance for your advice. Meat Eater.

Take both the DGS and DGX and let your PH advise you when you get there. Use only 300 grain A lot of PH's will only want you to shoot solids, some will want you to shoot buff with a soft first followed up with solids Swift A frames are always a good choice if you can find them. Good for plains game or large man haters

If you're a reloader, why are you interested in factory ammo? Why not load some CEB non-cons and solids? First shot = non-con and follow it with CEB solids as necessary. Good buff medicine.

My ph recommended Fed Pre. 300gr Barnes TSX & 300 gr Barnes solids. Frontal shot at 100 yds with TSX got almost 4ft of penetration, piled up dead within 50 yds. LORD, let my bullets go where my crosshairs show. Not all who wander are lost. NEVER TRUST A FART!!! Cecil Leonard

Barnes TSX, Swift A Frame, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. We are spoiled for excellent bullets. Our job is to place them correctly.

Call north fork technologies and ask them who loads for them. Their cup point solids are good buffalo medicine and they have the new precussion points for plains game and cats. ( same weight, same point of impact).

I think you'll find a lot of PH's not wanting you to use the DGX and DGS. TSX, CEB, and Nortfork would be much better options. But I'm interested in that Trijicon 1.5x6 you mentioned. I'm a firm supporter and believer in the Trijicon line of optics but I've been campaigning for an intermediate scope in just such a power range as the 1.25x4, 1x4, and 3x9 offerings leave a mid range gap that doesn't take full advantage of the 375's and 416's capabilities. The 1.5x6 you mentioned is perfect. When did they come out with this one and where did you find it?

I have excellent on African buff, the big Australia variety, and a few brown bear with the Hornady DGX and DGS. We use a hell of a lot of them filming, and yes, because Hornady is our sponsor, but we see more bullet results in half a season than lots of people would see in a lifetime. For sure the other bullets are all fine choices, and will do the job, but I have to stand up for the Hornady dangerous game series. Very tough stuff. Dave Fulson

I've only shot one buffalo, but the heavy for bore ammo I used in .375 H&H worked great (350 grain Barnes TSX). I had a friend handload the rounds for me, but if I were to use factory ammo, I'd still go with a premium 350 grain bullet. The 350 grain Woodleigh SPs have a very good reputation and I wouldn't hesitate to go with these loaded by Doubletap: http://www.doubletapammo.com/p...d=10&products_id=172 "I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken." Since you reload. May I suggest using a 300 TSX with from 68 gr-72 gr RL-15 with a Fed 215 primer. I have not shot a buffalo yet however it seem the 300TSX is an acknowldged recommendation. I know it works ahead of the load suggested above. I have a slow barrel in my 375 and use the 72 gr load and I get about 2520 FPS through a chrono. It is an accurate load!

Barnes, Nosler, Fed Prem, Swift. Depending on which one works best for your rifle you can use any one of these with confidence. Dave Fulson mentioned Hornady. I have only used their solids and they work perfect. You will not be sniping your buffalo from 300 yards away so make sure you can shoot your rifle quick from 50 yards and closer. The 375 you have is a great gun. At all cost, only use the mentioned ammunition. Have fun trying to decide where and with whom you will be hunting.

Here's some 270 and 450 grain A-Frames that I pulled out of buffalo. You could use 300s and 500s if you wanted,or thought you needed to. They are so boring that I can barely stay awake typing this. Somewhat less boring Hornady DGX. Personally I'll take boring.

I've used the 270gr TSX on a few buffalo with excellent results. Others have too. I seem to remember Randy Brooks using the 270gr for buffalo and I think he is in position to get good feedback. The 270gr TSX penetrates very well and seems to open with more violence than the 300 gr. Felt recoil is a bit less. The 270 gr at 2800fps does a lot of damage.

Dang. I had my hopes up for an intermediate power scope in a Trijicon. Oh well, maybe they'll come out with this model soon. I certainly think there will be a market for it.

My vote is only worth one buffalo, but I used a 300 grain TSX Federal Safari ammo out of my CZ in 375. My 2 cents, would advise against using .375 DGX on buff. Good for soft skin game and cats but I have had some bad experiences with buff. The DGX in heavier calibres are brilliant though. I use them in my .470
