45-70 as the Ultimate Big Game Stopper.

Putting all the earlier posts aside for a moment lets review the 45-70 as the Ultimate Game Stopper.
Yes we know that with proper bullets/loadings the 45-70 is capable of deep penetration, in some cases better than the 458 Winchester Magnum.
We can do the math and come up with a TKO rating between
54-60. (pretty big punch there) However these are statistics that one cannot necessarily count on in the field when encountering dangerous game.
Mother Nature has a way of outwitting us sometimes.
However it is safe to say that a 500grain hard cast bullet at around 1600-1700fps is going to pack a whaloop.
Perhaps not as much as a 416 Rigby or 458 Lott but a serious punch that can definitely get the job done.
With that said let's review DG hunting a moment. The reason we go DG hunting is because it is just that, DG. Correct?
I mean we don't really hunt Cape Buff for burger meat do we?
IPSO/Facto therefore.... for those that feel the caliber might be somewhat lacking, doesn't that simply increase the challenge of your hunting experience? Put aside what the PH says for a moment. What does he care, he just wants to stay safe and collect his $$. For him it's just a job.
For you and I it is an long awaited and saved up for adventure.
Yes I consent that the 45-70 doesnt' pack the power as some other calibers. But is does pack more than enough and certainly adds to the excitement.
Which to me makes it the ultimate D/G stopper.

If you folow that logic ( or lack thereof) then if we REALLY wanted to have the ULTIMATE game stopper, we should revert back to using muzzeloaders. The 45/70 will never amount to anything ore than a gimmick gun for dangerous game. If not, then there would be least ONE PH that would use it. jorge

Black Powder does not allow for the quick follow up shot. If it did the logic would apply.

Well I for one don't aspire to become a PH.
Who is not a real hunter but a money maker only.
But that is my opinion only. I don't hold PH's in high regard, but then again I don't hold much of middle-aged windbags trying to squeeze their fat butt's into fighter plane. Nice pic there jorge

It would seem the grand ole 45-70 still generates an awful lot of interest even amongst this den of doubters.

Carmelo,
I really don't think it has anything to do with 45-70. They are just checking to see who is stirring the pot this time.

Carmelo: It's amazing how you can paint PHs with one stroke like that, I admire them for their courage, intelligence, wit and social skills, something that you obviosuly lack. Your obvious ignorance continues to show. There are and were black powder doubles AND repeaters. I'm sorry if my picture offended you. It's not a fighter really, but a T-2 Buckeye, one of the Navy's trainers. Been doing it for about 23 years now, FLying tactical aircraft off aircraft carriers. That picture was taken about 3 years ago when I was an instructor. It's been a great career, with two combat deployments to Desert Storm in 91 and Enduring Freedom in 02. Wonder what you were doing then, wearing Pampers and crapping on yourself? Anyhow, I strongly recommend my line of work, beats the hell out of really working for a living, only with a name like "carmelo" I'd would hesitate to go into my business. On second thought becoming a PH is out also, I wouldn't want a guy named "Carmelo" as a wing man in combat or next to me in the bush. jorge

My Kodiak double barrel, .50 caliber blackpowder rifle does but I will never be STUPID enough to take it on a DG hunt.

So don't bring it on a D/G hunt.
But I doubt you will ever be going on a D/G. They take balls.

Folks if you ever wondered what a troll is, you are seeing a classic example in this string. The originator makes a statement meant to inflame people and then replies with more of the same. Then when it's pointed out that he's wrong on something he resorts to personal attacks. You can't get a better example than that.

Nickudu can you make this string a permanent sticky at the top of the boards so that whenever anyone asks what a troll is, we can just refer them to this?

Thanks.

I don't really know why you guys feel my original post was so imflammatory?
Unless you are very paranoid about something.
As far as the comments read the posts from the fat ass in the toy plane.
How can one be serious when that is what you have to deal with.
If I am responded to in a reasonable manner I will return a reasonable response.

I won't be posting the Outfitters information here due to the ill will I seem to have from many posters on the forum. I don't want my Guide bombarded with Hate email.
I will be bringing the 45-70 for larger game and my 06 for smaller plains animals.

Yep, still here.Oh yeah, don't forget when you go to Namibia, to tell your PH how you have no respect for him or any PH like you posted above, be specific like whay you wrote that they are not really hunters. Only over there, you won't be hiding behind a keyboard, "Candy."

Hey Horhay,
Now why would I say that to him?
I am paying this clown to lead me to where the game is, since Namibia doesn't happen to be my home turf.
Outside of that I could care less about him.
I am not relying on him for anything but showing me where the game is.
I will handle the rest.

Well the PH tells me the Buff herds in the region we are hunting are sparser. But I am prepared to pay the license fee if I come across a good size animal.
No elephant. As I have no desire to hunt one.
Althought the 45-70 would easily do the job.

I am a fraud because I don't want to post the PH's name until after my hunt?
Yeah ok genius. You see how all the people here react to a simple 45-70 post. You think I am gonna have these clowns ruin a hunt that is costing me upwards of 12 grand? They would be sending emails to the outfitter saying all kinds of shit.
Go ahead and call me whatever you like I could care less. To me you are all nameless clowns behind pc's believe what you wish.
Means nothing to me.

Carmelo,
You are absolutely correct to refuse to give details of your plans for your hunt. There is an element on this board that would make every effort to sabotage your trip. They go into paroxysms of fury at the mere mention of the 45-70, accusing you of being nothing short of the Antichrist. No rational discussion of it is possible without descending rapidly into name-calling. The goal is to drive you from the board. Hang in there.
Regards

If I am not mistaken you will only have to pay a trophy fee, since there is no license fee. But you probably are hunting in the Caprivi if there are buffalo present. However there is small populations on some of the game management areas but they have very limited access. There is only to my knowledge 3 operators in the Caprivi that have buffalo, so it would be easy to find out.

You need to go to troll school and I am thinking of opening such a school

You are doing nearly all the postings on the thread but good trolling allows you to sit back and watch and just every so often throw a few drops of petrol on the fire.
