Damara Dik-Dik...[pic]
We got within about 40 yards of this Damara Dik-Dik for a nice up-close and personal shot at this little guy...He gave me a second to squeeze off three shots and he scampered for the undercover and just FROZE there...He was a CUTE little fellow I must say... Roll Eyes

Thank you Ann...that's very kind of you!

The full size file I have of this image just blows me away...the detail is incredible and it will make a fine print... Smiler

Odd little fellows, and don't seem to have much survival sense, although they must.

Hi Steve...

Our PH told us they have made a strong resurgence the past decade or so...their numbers have grown tremendously in Namibia now, although I don't remember if he mentioned how far south they've got... Wink

Take care,

Ro

Hi roland and others

They can be found all the way south about Okahandja, (rarely). The only one that I have shot myself was shot between Okahandhja and Otjiwarongo when I was still in grade 5 or 6. They have certainly made a comeback, and although they might seem tame in some areas, they can be quite a challenge in others, especially in he heavy thronbush.

They blend so well in the photos. A very challenging hunt for sure.

LB,

Thanks for posting - that's a fantastic photo.

I'll be in Namibia next year and had been thinking about adding a Damara Dik-Dik.

Your photo has me leaning toward doing so.

Maybe the price has come down since I got mine in 02. Then they were among the most expensive (pound for pound) trophy in Africa. $1,000. Eeker

Everyone thanks for your kind words as I am very pleased that so many of you have enjoyed this particular image as well as the few others I've posted here... Smiler

It means a lot to me as I started learning photography only 8 weeks before my trip... Big Grin

Roland. That is the way it goes. When you want to shoot them with a camera they will strike a pose. Now if you were trying to squeeze off a round he would have been no where to be found. Kind of like squirl hunting...they are everywhere untill you want the one with the bushiest tail.

You really took some great pictures on your trip.

Really nice photo! Out of probably thousands of Africa pics that Sadie and I have taken none of live animals is better than that one picture of the dik-dik. Nice work!

Dear Mark....

Comments like that from you and from others here have really given me a tremendous sense of accomplishment in my photography/hunting adventures...

I am graciously humbled that you feel my work is credible...I am constantly trying to take my images to a higher level in the standards I have placed upon myself...

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your comments... It means very much to me and I have received several requests for prints of this Damara Dik-Dik image and a few others...

Aloha,

The little fellow seems to be looking back to show you how pretty he has curled his eyelashes. Great shot!

That beauty of animal tamibién have told me that his game is very difficult. I think we should give a penalty shoot an animal so tender jejeje.
