I have been "brass kissing" and Marc Jamison is making up some .416 Rigby basic brass that is a full 3" long and will have a "Jamison" headstamp at least, maybe ".500 Jamison" I just have to add the .500 to complete the headstamp. More brass kissing to be done? Or work with an engraving pen, or my own bunter and hydraulic press? This will be a .470 Mbogo necked up to .510 caliber and trimmed to 3.000", as simple as that. The ultimate elephant AND buffalo rifle. It could easily be loaded slow or fast. 10" twist. 570 grain GSC FN or Barnes TSX 2450 to 2500 fps MV The ultimate in user friendly, portable fire power. I will post a picture of the new brass whenever I can. It is not ready yet. Serious elephant hunters might want to take note.

ALF, you're forgetting that all things are relative, including friendliness and portability. What may be too much for one can be just fine for another. My .500 (sorry, RIP, not a Jamison, but as you know, of equal power) works just fine for me with 600s at 2,300 fps, for first shots and follow ups, and after long walks in the hot sand, too. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

This WILL be in a 25 lb. rifle, yes? I'm just guessing, since you said "user friendly" and I believe it would be on the naked, ragged edge of "portable". My shoulder hurts just thinking about it. But I'm glad you got your wish. Any chance we'll get to see video of you shooting it with full-house loads? Jon Larsson - Hunter - Shooter - Reloader - Mostly in that order...

All whimps but MR, eh? You whimps can use RL-15 and filler, or a case a bit fuller of H4831SC or something even slower, and keep it down to 2150 fps like the .500 NE. The better recoil handling of the bolt action (vs. the off-center bores of the double) will make the .500 Jamison gentler for an equal weight rifle. Rifle weight ought to be right around 10 pounds bare. Both MR and I have shot the .500 A2 enough to know how practical the .500 Jamison will be. Whimps! Anything bigger than 50 cal is just silly anyway. No need for sure.

Rip, I would shoot it...But definately not from the bench...As for velocity and that big bullet, I think 2200 is enough... Come to Dallas in January...I'd like to see one of those rounds... Mike 13 weeks till the Selous

Shooting the 500 from the bench just takes practice. The 570 grn X is a real killer! In my A2 at 2350 it is not bad at all.

Actually I have taken to using a Simms Limb Saver slip-on pad over a Pachmayr Decelerator. The LOP is 14" with the 1" Pachmayr and the Simms brings it to the 14.5" ballpark. I am most comfortable with a 14.5" to 14.75" LOP. My Merkel 140-2.0 is 14.5" to front trigger with a Pachmayr Sporting Clays Pad, and a slip-on Galco leather and velcro butt cover makes it very slick and comfortable. Alas, a .470 NE double just seems anemic lately to this professional small boy. Bolt action trash is where it's at. Let the gunbearer carry the double for the backup.
