Sounds like the PH and his client deserved each other.

And selling quota to itinerant PH's is not a good idea for the reasons outlined in this thread.

Last year the PH informed me that we would be the only ones in camp. On arriving we found there was an outside PH with two Russian hunters already there. As the camp manager was off 'taking his test' the Russian hunters had decided to each take a separate hut which left me in a pretty crappy spot (literally). The first day we were close to camp so we headed back for lunch. Sergei was sitting in the open dining /lounge area in his undershorts smoking a butt with a tall scotch he was having for lunch. The second hunter was his toadie, a heavy set fellow with the disposition of a badger who would literally knock people out of the way to get his boss another drink. Hmmmm, not really what I had in mind. So after drinking his lunch and wobbling to his feet he announces to his PH 'we will go hunting for crocodile soon' and they did.
After dinner he would get on his satellite phone and scream at people. He said he had heard that if you shoot an elephant in the leg he will die so he was going to shoot an elephant in the leg. Myself and the PH's were disgusted with this guy but no one knew what to do. After announcing that he had talked to his wife in Moscow and she was fine I said 'good I'm glad nobody shot her in the leg' There was dead silence. Really I had had it with this guy if me and the toadie were gonna roll around on the ground so be it. They both went to bed shortly after . The PH with them was really a very nice guy but had no ability to control the situation. His boss hadn't paid him for his last hunt and these two kept intimating that they wouldn't pay if the didn't like the hunt. He was in a tough spot with no back up. So I agree itinerate PH's maybe not a good idea.

I too was stuck in one of Martin's camps with an obnoxious pair. They were so out of line! BEGNO and his son were completely impossible. We couldn't get along. I even had to make coffee a few times, if you can believe that - I'd never seen a French Press in my life!

(I hope you all recognize sarcasm - we had a great time. Couldn't have had better company)

Sorry you had such a poor experience, Larry

I met JDollar on a Namibian hunt this year - not sure if they shared my opinion but I certainly enjoyed sharing the camp fire with them.
In SA last month we shared the dinning room with 4 different hunters and PH's - from 4 different countries - the only USA hunter was with me - it was very entertaining even the awkward moments. Learning to deal with rude / difficult hunters is part of the fun and challange.
To be united is the only way we will survive the future war against hunting

never fear, Graeham, Kin and I truly enjoyed your company, as well as that of your clients...i guess i have just been lucky but i have shared camps with a number of people on the front and back end of hunts. no problems except for 1 asshole years ago in Tz and that was only for 3days and our hunt was over- we were just killing time till the charter came in.
