Uganda hunting ban?

Just heard from someone on the ground in Uganda that the country just banned hunting again. I imagine these things go back and forth with a degree of regularity in some of these countries that are or have been attempting to build a hunting industry. Does anyone have more information with regard to the truth of the above or the permanence of it if true?

Thanks.

I have heard nothing about it But Steve Robinson is there now. I talked to a friend who works in the Vice presidents office last wk he never mentioned it to me. The government seamed to be 100% behind hunting in april when I was there. I'll email and try to call a few people and see but I think really don't think the report was correct. BUT you never know (it's africa)

Agreed. This was the first I had heard of it and it may be one of those weekend or short term decisions that can and will be sorted out. Had it not come from this particular source I would have ignored it. I look forward to any info you might have.

OK so far it looks like a quota issue so far but I will see what else I can find out. ____not a ban on hunting___ it may take a day or two.

I will I have already emailed Susan and Lane and will call uganda when I get off work. I do think it's a simple quota issue since island sitatunga and a few other animals are still being checked/counts being done for realist numbers.

From reliable source in Uganda:

It is mis-information.

It involves a feud between an UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority) executive and the Board of Trustees and other internal politics.

There is NO BAN. There was a letter circulated that "talked of" a TEMPORARY suspension to clear up issues. And the supension has not been implemented and is unlikely to be.

Hunting is taking place there as we speak.

Full details to follow.

ya I do remember someone mentioning some end fighting within the bureaucracy. I believe that it will be corrected shortly. I don't believe it will come to anything as drastic as closing hunting

I hope the Hunting Report is a bit more accurate than it was with the info on the Tanzania mid-season/retroactive fee hikes.

There is NO suspension as of now. There is talk of a temporary suspension but it is unlikely at this time. But as we all KNOW it is Africa.

If that changes...I will be the first to post. but again...as of right now...NO suspension.
